Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Watch out SMs and remaining Ops Mgrs.....

Staples is trying to eliminate these positions. The higher pay (compared to Team Supervisors) and the mandated 5 hrs of OT a week have painted a target on these positions. It used to be easy/common for DMs/GMs to tell AMs "don't leave until XXX is done and the store is perfect" because AMs were salaried. Now, due to the class action they are hourly and there is a soft cap of 45 hrs. They can work more, but they earn more. That is bad for "bidness". Expect a strong push to eliminate this position for lower paid "supevisors" going into and beyond the merger/buyout.

Staples will continue to squeeze every penny out of the stores until they keep losing sales and eventually are closed. The only growth Staples is seeing right now is Online ales and thats because they are screwing their stores over so bad that customer service sucks and basically all positions, management and associates are just selling their jobs away every time they walk a customer to the kiosk. You can't win in Staples. I am giving my notice.

I had a feeling this was going to happen, taking out the AM's portion. And also, was thinking whej it was time to look at the GM' because more the. Half shouldn't be in their position.

Any idea of when all of this is going to happen?

This post is totally accurate. DM's were charged with managing out Gm's, particularly well paid ones, regardless of performance as far back as 18 months ago. Then they focused on SM's and Ops. The really funny part is the DM's have failed to see the writing on the wall for them (well many have). If you find yourself in this position document your performance against peer group. It's really hard to justify a termination if you are performing better than even only 20% of the company... makes their job REALLY hard, and after all that can be a satisfaction in itself!

A 74124...yes you can...you have short term if your f.t. and if you have l.t.d. you pay for it weekly...but your answer is yes you can use it under a Dr's care for stress and depression. ...but it's a struggle....and a process. ...if you don't return...then you can be fired..but hey...you can collect unemployment after. .your health is worth more than staples!!! I've been there!!

does anyone know if they can fire you if you go out on stress leave. Do you get disability if you go? My doctor wants to take me out.

Supervisors do not have the experience or know how to handle these positions. They are already complaining about not bEing paid enough for the little bit they so now. Do they really think their going to do management positions.

Already happening managers are being told to have a perfect store and stay til work is done. Closing manager taking the brunt of it. Being told everything everyone else did not complete has to be done before you leave and the floor must be perfect all outs filled and keyed. You only have one office supply for 5 or less hours and no overrime. Everything is your fault. Oh and do all kinds of reporting on top of closing the registers, closing the store, completing all load, cleaning receiving. You have one hour after close. And it better be done or you get written up. Nothing is exceptable. You have to time to do audits but get 100% on those too. If not get fired

There isn't a soul that's safe in this place. If you're drinking the koolade, I'd suggest stop and get your resume in order. Staples is t what it was 5 years ago, job elimination in favor of outsourcing, whether to a throw party or India is all that's on this companies mind.
