PIP in modem teams

Heard rumors that a few people in modem teams in WT/Q are being put on PIP. Can anyone here confirm? What alternate option or package do they get if any?

With 30,000 employees there is some room for layoffs and staff reductions. Qualcomm focus on the next big thing.

layoffs are fine. everything in moderation. if 2% of employees are superstars, then 2% are probably deadbeats. better to spend that money on shareholder productivity (e.g. dividends for the aristocrats).

Business is also fine. Chip sales are just icing on the IP cake.

Layoffs are a sign that business is not good. And I think layoffs will demoralize more than inspire people to work harder. New grads are great but a range of experience levels are required for s successful tech company. That being said, layoffs are inevitable given declining chip sales due to stronger competition.

Is it possible that QC is using layoff as a tool to boost productivity? Layoffs put fear in people first, and after that, more new grads can be hired at a lower cost. Every new CEO has used layoffs as the goto tool for improving bottom line. One post put it very succinctly that engineers has maximum shelf life of 25 years and current skills start to become dated in 5-10 years.

71718, if u need some sunshine just read the permabull messages on siliconinvestor.com -- all they do is talk up how QC saved the world by taxing it and bash companies who don't bow down to the modem patent licensing model. Like Apple (ericcson lawsuit)

Cheer up, kiddo!

pip is six months long pink slip(one review period).....it just says that you are done and have to leave the company... when things don't go right direction ..... all bets are off.....they will coerce people to leave voluntarily and then probably end to the year layoff more people....just like 2013 and 2014

Is QC PIPing qualified people just to trim headcount or are these people really under performers?

YES. I know of a guy with a decade at Qualcomm that was forced out with pip.
