Let's get this point straight. The upper echelon of Staples is being forced out. All the way down to GM's. Of course the major driving force is $ and the conception that there are people in the world that can do it better....... Untrained people in the Staples way can NOT do it better in the short term... If you last the SHORT term and your GOOD you may be around in a year If you produce more than stellar results........ But in that course of action you will BURN many long term employees who are well versed in company operations and you will LOOSE them... Copy Center employees in particular are being snatched up by other hungry copy companies for 3 or 4 dollars more an hour and a full time job... Good bait and effective.......... We are loosing valuable copy center employees at an alarming rate...... That's only part of the problem...... The part time hourly limitation is driving many GREAT employees who used to get 25 - 35 hours a week without benefits and were perfectly happy with that out of our stores. VERY POOR DECESION to enforce this policy and loose all these GREAT employees. I am not finished yet........ I will be back .

They are driving more than "Expired value means that they feel you are not worth the money you are paid, disloyal associates refers to anyone who has not drank the company Kool-Aid. They are actively attempting to drive both out. " Actually if you have drank the company Kool-Aid and aren't worth a shit then you are a succubus of the worst kind and need to go anyway. "Not worth the money I am being paid ?" They may feel that but in many other circles I am worth much more than I am being paid.. Only my age is keeping me from getting any offers to lure me away.. Those younger than me showing the same potential are being enticed away at an alarming rate for a few dollars more an hour, a full time position, and a decent benefits package........ Bye, Bye qualified solid employees........ I know you are agreeing with me in your own way... Not arguing.... Hopefully we will reach a turning point before the Empire collapses.. I had a very interesting conversation with a local entrepreneur today in the store who has been a customer for years... He addressed me by name and asked what the hell was going on with Staples. That we weren't any where near the business we used to be in terms of service, professionalism, trained knowledgeable associates, etc. He told me that his most valuable assets were his employees and that he treats and pays them well despite the lack of a salary he would like to make. He continued to say that he was taught early on that your business can only be as good and successful as those you choose to surround yourself with. A man I never held in very high esteem suddenly turned on a million watt spotlight in my mind... How true was this simple statement of a rule of running a business ? Always listen to everyone's opinion as you never know where or from whom your next great idea will come from. Even as simple as treating people decently to win their loyalty and support.... by, "I Wrote This"
If you scroll back on this board ( about 6 months ago) there is a post regarding "expired value assets" and "disloyal associates". Expired value means that they feel you are not worth the money you are paid, disloyal associates refers to anyone who has not drank the company Kool-Aid. They are actively attempting to drive both out.
Sorry, Ron's bonus is more important than a well staffed CPC.
Staples corporate needs to give the General Managers in their stores more control to be able to offer full time jobs with benefits at a higher salary level to worthy employees who will be a positive influence on our business and create and produce more bottom line sales to our stores. I am not a rocket scientist or major marketing wiz but I can see what works and what fizzles. I am seeing to many fizzles............. Good people are becoming disenchanted with the Staples way of doing things and are finding better places to go. Baaaaaaaadddddddd Staples. A new mentality needs to be put in place to retain the great people we have in our system and prevent others who recognize these traits better than we do from stealing them away......... I REPEAT MYSELF....... Wake the F*** up Staples and RETAIN these employees that are exiting at alarming numbers to better our company........... Turn this business model around and try a different approach to making us successful. IT'S BROKE, FIX IT...........
So, I am back... Just finished IM'ing a former CC employee who left a couple of days ago for an account representative job for another print company who offered her a full time job for $4 more an hour and benefits.. She was our best part time CC employee........ NO way in hell should we have lost her......... We should have done everything in our power to keep her on our staff... Including offering her a full time job with benefits........ A small price to pay for the income she would have generated... NO, I am not a CC person.... but I know a good employee when I see one...... This is the major downfall of the Staples Corporate mentality...... They are burning GREAT employees for the almighty dollar. Only they don't realize, understand or see that these employees are far more valuable than the measly pay they are giving them.... Trained and experienced employees like these in whatever department they are in need to be retained. Yes more money but YES many more benefits to our company in the form of increased sales and customer satisfaction levels. I've only scratched the surface of my rant....... More to follow............ WAKE UP STAPLES CORPORATE............
