Imagine YOU own a HVAC company. You have hired sales people, but they aren't selling any HVAC systems and don't want to be fired because they haven't sold any systems. You have repairmen that don't want to fix HVAC systems when they break, or they claim they can't fix them and they don't want to be fired for not being able to fix them. However, all of these employees expect great pay, great paid time off, and expect full paid health benefits (and moar are overweight and unhealthy). They want 5% raises every year but don't want their sales goals/repair goals/etc. to go up by the same 5% needed to pay for their raises. And then when you have to fire them and close the company because you don't have the money to pay them, it is YOUR fault as the owner.

OP and 811 are the same person. And what an elitist, hypocritical a$$hole! "The problem with the country is accountability." Oh, really Mister Senior Executive? You're here to lecture us about what's wrong with the country? You going to man-splain or exec-splain to is why the country isn't the Utopia it would be if only the wretched masses were as gifted, privileged, intelligent, industrious, meritorious, and ACCOUNTABLE as you? You had no problem taking all the credit, claiming all the accountability, for CCi's boom years. Your convenient claims to be responsible for the boom years is what you used to negotiate your inflated pork-barrel salaries and bonuses for the next several years. And now that business has taken a nose dive and the Feds and AGs are after you, you wash your hands of it and blame it all on the masses? Where's YOUR accountability gone now? Maybe you're right after all: "The problem with the country is accountability." Well, I refer you to the mirror.
428 - No it was spot on, they just don't see it. They're trying to sell something that is a pile of shit, and all they care about is dialing and smiling and getting sales. They don't see the back end of the business where the product actually has to be affordable and have some value to people or nobody pays and nobody buys more and you go out of business.
SBO - wow, that was the poorest analogy I have ever seen. Keep up the good work! HVAC - jeez.
You missed the biggest thing OP, nobody is buying your POS equipment because they have no money. They have no money because short sighted greedy assholes sent all our good paying jobs to China. If you loan overpriced and poorly made parts like you seem to only be concerned about, inevitably you won't get the money back when it breaks and someone has to buy a new one or go without and still has some massive bill for an AC unit that isn't doing a f***ing thing, just like a degree from Corinthian.
@849 - I guess that is the perk of having the balls to start your own company. If it is so easy, I suggest that you do it.
What I love is when they do sell like hotcakes, I get to keep all that sweet profit!
The problem with the country is accountability. You have students who barely attended class and barely passed, who never kept in touch with their CSA, and who only went to school for the stipend complaining now that they can't pay their loans. You have Admissions and faculty that are forced to live with the motto 'quantity over quality', who willingly enroll people they KNOW can't ever find jobs in field (people with felonies in their background as CJ, convicted drug dealers/users as MA and PT), and who pass people who should NOT have passed classes (attended less than 50% of classes) being passed. Admissions and Academics will never say its their fault for the poor results post-graduation. Those that would admit to doing wrong have already left the school. (I've seen it. Lost some great teachers. Sad.) On the flip side you have those that DID put in their best effort who are now working in their field. I know of a few people who --in less than a year-- have moved up or laterally in their company. They were able to get their foot in the door because of their Heald education and association. Those people won't complain, though. They're the 'Do'ers', not the whiners. Unfortunately, the whiners make more noise.
What's that got to do when the company owner cannot generate calls and doesn't have a budget for advertising?
