Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Veterans need to come forward

For students who were ripped off by Art Institutes, Argosy, Brown-Mackie, or South Univeristy, you need to come forward. Insiders who know about these issues with veterans also need to come forward

  1. Vets can file with VA : http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/feedback.asp.........................

  2. Service members with DOD http://www.militaryonesource.mil/voluntary-education?content_id=274604................

  3. All students who were deceived should file with US Federal Trade Commission: http://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/submit-consumer-complaint-ftc......................

  4. Finally, many state AGs are great.........

The GIB controversy is no controversy. The GVT funds it and vets can utilize it along with Pell and loans. Housing stipend is a plus. All the 90/10 discussion referes to 90% of tuition being covered by loans. The GVT wants 10% to be " cash" in any form: State prepaid, GIB etc.

Every school, state, for profit...fights the 90/10. Carving out EDMC is ridiculous. Look at the largest state school in your state and you will see that they too are battling 90/10.

Can we get back to the layoffs set for to tomorrow?

The colleges are scamming Vets by using the GI Bill money to Receive the title 4 funding. Its the 90/10 rule and is why these colleges go after the Vets, without the GI Bill Students almost every for profit college would be cut off from the title 4 money and close its doors, That is the Scam! Google it and educate yourself on the facts. <----- this person posts on this site over and over and over again... we get it... funny thing though, this person needs to google and learn a little more about it, yes veterans benefits do not count towards 90/10, that is not a scam, that is a rule. if the rule changes and somehow the school magically manipulated the funding and hide it or something, then that would be a scam; but the rule is 90/10. ...veterans can go where ever they want basically, they have a really great benefit...schools accepting the benefit is not a scam. students taking out loans when it is already paid for when they are already getting stipends for housing and then saying the school scammed them is the news...educate yourself//////////// "last post # 321" --> yes some schools do exceed the new GI bill limit per academic year, this is not just for profit schools though, sorry if you thought it was. I feel very strongly about this because my best friend goes to a local school, not for a profit and it is far over the gi bill limit; around here people will know the school, but the fact is, nobody will really know the school outside of this area/state, so it is not like she is going to best the school in the state, but she is going to a school in the area for her degree far exceeds the limit even after the yellow ribbon program; (she chose it because of proximity to home) very familiar with veterans benefits and how they work; a school accepting them is not a scam; be annoyed that the 90/10 rule does not count military aid; which as everyone knows has been talked about changing. it's not like the 90/10 rule is a special exception for, for profits... its for all schools.

Here is a news flash for those that may not be aware. For profit colleges usually exceed the cost allotted by the VA. I am not upset or bitter about it. I made an uninformed decision and paid a price. I was lied to by admissions, and should have fact checked before signing the papers. As far as pursuing a Master's Degree, that was a decision I made to enter my current field. Unlike employers, colleges did not care where I completed my undergraduate studies as long as the college was accredited.

Like I said in my last post, I do pay my student loans and on time. I am thankful that I am able to work in my chosen field.

Gi bill = tuition paid for, housing stipend sent to student

Veterans that want to pretend like they were "scammed" = had their degree paid for with the gi bill, stipend with housing stipend, stipend with pell grant, then decided to request the full loan amount that students with out the gi bill can get, get the loan every as stipend since school is already paid for. Nice fat paycheck for going to school... Oh and then say all the colleges are scamming Veterans.... Hahaha. I admit there are problems higher Ed but the government needs to crack down veteran benefits in how they are used in very simple terms. Why can students take out these loans if there school is paid for?!? Veterans come on, seriously you took out the loans, spent the money on everything but school (already paid for!) so let's not place blame on a terrible decision

90321 how did you get into your masters program if everyone laughed at your associates and bachelors from Brown Mackie? Why did you get your bachelors if you thought it was so terrible? Why not go to another school? I get maybe once you started the associates, wanting to finish the degree.., but then continue to a bachelors?? You state you are a disabled veteran, how much of your tuition was paid for? How much of your loans you speak about were stipends that went into your pocket in addition to the stipend the government already gives veterans for going to school. People can be mad anyone veteran or not should have to pay back loan. Even though students take out "student loans" it did not go to tuition... What made going to school mean, free loan?

Hi K.C

I graduated from Brown Mackie a few years back with an AAS, and a Bachelors degree. Although I later completed my masters degree studies elsewhere, I was laughed at during interviews in which I only had college education from BMC.

Since I was a "graduate" , I suspect I have no recourse with respect to this "College".

Btw, I'm a honorably discharged disabled Veteran that took loans and used my GI Bill benefit for this overpriced toilet paper.

At least I have a career with my Masters Degree, and can make my loan payments.

Keep up the good work. The search engines pick up all this bad news. When parents and students start searching about the school this site pops up and helps educate them and hopefully deters them from these scam schools. Keep naming the schools!

Camden needs a life...everything he posts is vomited from another site. Anyone with 2 cents worth of smarts can google the shit themselves...he is small penis jerk who loves the attention he gets here. Find another cause you half wit...cause sucking dick is not a full time job.

And yet, your entire life is reading message boards, how ironic. You obviously have an obsession with Camden. Your jealous rants wont make him go away, its just reveals your infatuation with him. I personally like reading what he has to say, info that EDMC doesn't want you to know about.. So Camden, if you are reading this, KEEP THE POSTS COMING!

Yep 89492..... Camden has done so much redundant bitching to the wrong audience that the eimpact of the message has been greatly deminished. Kind of like news another terrorist bombing in the middle east....

I love his fake outrage. He is like a little yippie dog who won't shut the hell up but poses zero threat. No one at EDMC, the govt, or anywhere else cards what he has to say because his entire "battle" revolves around posting on a message board. Get a life, bro.

Camden. If you really want to get the message out you really need to find another venue. Think about it .. This site is called the layoff not disgruntled for profit student. Not saying you don't have a valid cause. Just saying that you need to find a better site. This is mostly current and former employees . You tube would be a much better platform for your cause. So in summary, need to think about marketing and your target audience......
