Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

in preparation for a layoff... (do these things)

Immediately stop all after tax deductions including stock purchases, parking, United Way, etc. Copy all personal data to a personal resource including personal contacts and calendar items. Print out all goals and objectives and the associated results for use in a future resume. Clean out the office of all personal items. Eliminate risk associated with COP investments in stock and retirement. April 30 will be the financial portion of the 2015 analysts meet and greet and expect a loss and an associated loss in COP stock price. Easy enough to sell stock via Computershare (after final payroll deduction clears) and reallocate resources via Vanguard. At the layoff request an estimate date for the severance package paperwork and the pay advice attachment as the current online systems will not be available after the layoff. Schedule visits with doctor, dentist, optometrist and pharmacist today to maximize benefits. Connect like mad with co-workers on LinkedIn.

HSA (health savings account) transfer notice... $2.50 per month account maintenance after 30 days. Accounts with < $500 offer opportunities to cash out via qualifying expenses such as doctor visits and eye glasses and close the account altogether. The funds can be used for COBRA payment in addition to the qualifying expenses.

I agree except for the selling of all COP stock before April 30: if it is your opinion that the stock has already gone down the most for the longterm, it is too late to sell because right now your loss is only a paper loss. No mention either of PSX stock either if you were employed during the split in 2012. I plan to hold for the longterm, those "pretty much guaranteed" dividends are nice, and will go a decent ways to support me in retirement. Either way, do some serious consultation before selling your stock for a real loss.
