Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

LR 2015

To the minion of Chambers who said that the LR process is based on "skills and contributions", that is incorrect. It's about sales of the organisation. Big hint, what does Rowan work on? Has that been going down? There have been many who received good reviews and were simply let go because their manager was simply told they had to let a certain number of people in the team go. At least get the facts straight before making a fool of yourself and misleading others.

Engineers are higher cost than admins. It's a dumbass thing to say to have a large organization and have engineers only and that they should do lower level work or something they are not skilled to do (like manage, do cost improvements, pass certifications, etc.). And when you get up in the thousands of employees, you need senior level non engineering support for more things than you would care to read here. I bet you could do your own dental work too. Let's just fire our healthcare provider too since as an engineer you could probably figure that out too and you can do it to each other.

Rumor has it that the culling starts next week. These persistent layoffs are disappointing to see since it shows a complete disconnect between the leadership and their employees. A singular focus on "changing the future" while only paying attention to how to make the quarter narrative acceptable for institutional investors creates such an environment. There are complete organizations that exist at cost tot the company, like a massive corporate quality team that are outside of engineering. Many bloated admistravitve groups and functions with very senior people that are not generating revenue compounded by many organizations that grew their overhead rather than engineering. Sad to see that the sun has set on this company's innovation and passion.

At this moment it is all about politics. Who wants to work in such an environment when absolutely no manager can be trusted to even speak the truth? Good work or bad work, their job is to keep you motivated until the day of reckoning, even if it means lying to your face. If you're good at curry favouring your manager you stand a chance of survival, good luck otherwise. Cisco has been doing one thing positively well year after year, buying acquisitions and destroying them to nothingness by laying off those from the acquisitions. 100% proven track record.

It is absolutely correct, managers are asked to reduce head count, and managers plan for that. They hire talented people and let them go the next layoff to protect his old people eve if they are under performer.
