I got promoted to an AM from MT. It's a total bs program. All they do now is email us at the stores and ask "who do you think should be an AM." No training, nothing. Just an email...
It's a joke. I applied for it a few years ago and lifer told me that everyone he knew never got promoted into a management role. I know of one person that was promoted out of it, only to be told a few months after he moved 400 miles that he could either move to another area of the county or be laid off as two manager in the same office was no longer needed. Huge waste of time over the years.
What's a MT Program? Manager trainee?
The MT program is a waste of time. I've never been through it personally, but I've been around long enough to witness others be lured by this. It's basically used as a hold-over so you won't quit. You'll be promised more training, etc etc. but if you are already a lead/supervisor don't expect this to take off. It is more of a holding pattern.
MT program was a joke. I know people that were strung along for a long time by that elusive carrot. Next quarter, next year, etc etc. Most of them went on to other companies and are better off. It was probably cut because Staples wants to eliminate the assistant manager position entirely.
