Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Silence on the layoffs at COP is deafening!

I really don't understand why Corporate hasn't been more forth coming about the layoffs. So far not one communication has come out about them. It's not like they are a secret, or that the employees can't find this information on the internet, it's all there, but it is deeply concerning that management acts like nothing is going on. Yes, this is a painful period and these changes are necessary, but why not be open and honest, at least in general, about what is happening here. How much time is lost each day by employees searching the internet for any news on the layoffs? How much time is lost on idle gossip and employees contacting others in other groups and business units for news? This lack of communication is extremely disrespectful and is not inline with the Spirit values Management claims to cherish. It is a disappointment.

When they sold Phillips they knew COP was unprotected from the market volatility. The stupid analysts are a waste of time, they never asked Ryan about hedging to protect the company from volatility. He seems very immature in laying off people and thinking that somehow that will grow the organic reserves. Even now they are very unprotected from just one law away from Texas asking for the secret formula in frac fluids. So much for refracking...

You're correct. I've been around a while and I've never seen something dealt with less respectfully. I know in time like these we all morph into a group of mindlesss lemmings, reciting such canned quotes as 'it's necessary for survival' and 'what's best for the shareholders'. However, every person who gets pink slipped is having their life turned upside down (really, how many jobs are going to be open in oil/gas over the next 6 months), a fact that seems to be lost on upper management.

Guess they're a little too removed from being worker bees to understand what its like to have people depend on you, or bills to pay. Maybe they should have started at the top - most of those peoples severances would be large enough that they'd never have to work again anyways
