Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

TO HR, Can I get a retirement package even though I am a year short of working the required 10 years?

I know people who were laid off last year and received a two month severance package. Some of them had 8 to 9 years with the company. The new package says you have to have 10 years. I'd be interested in retiring if they would go along with the 9 years I have right now. I dare not contact HR, they might pull my number right now and say you're gone, without any benefits or package. Wish there was a telephone number where one could get answers, without the fear of being immediately cut. Who can you trust?

HR will lay you off the month before you finish your ten years. They do that all the time. At all the significant milestones, e.g., 20, 30. Standard practice among all companies. Best to plan early for your retirement.
