I left WFT after one year to take a similar position with a different company. One of the, many, reasons I left was, the fact, that I felt strongly that WFT would be; a) Bankrupt or b) bought out sooner within 3- 5 years time. Working for WFT was, truly, the worst experience of my professional career. I was astonished by how poorly the company was run. Just a few examples:
1) WAY to many people in middle management. I was in a sub-department of 12 people. The breakdown was: 4 Directors, each making 250k+, 4 Sr. Managers, and 1 analysts. The amount of overhead spent on salaries alone for this group was mind boggling. Not to mention we accomplished very little due to such a top heavy structure.
2) The place is infested with outside consultants. Their billing rates burn up cash quickly and they perform totally unnecessary tasks. They know WFT is poorly run so they take advantage of it by pitching senseless projects to management. I know for a fact, mutiple partners, at a specific firm, have retired soley off fees generated by WFT. WHY does a comapny with so many people in middle manageent need so many consultants? Also why even consider laying off full-time employees until non-discretioanry consulting fees are eliminated.
3) Employees are treated like dirt. How is a 401k plan that, mind you, takes 1 year to even participate in, competitive with the overall market. The HR department is a total joke. They should be an entity unto themselves, not a "front" for upper manegement. WFT is a bare bones organziation when it comes to perks, esentially the ONLY perk employees get is their paycheck. Not really a perk at all when you consider WFT offered you employment for services rendered.
4) Why does Sr. Manegement still have their jobs? My perspective is that, outside of the CFO, there has been very little "real" restructuring amongst Sr. Management. The stock price sucks, the company is bleeding cash, and they are laying off thousands on a yearly basis. Perhaps it is time for a change.
