I got approval to change my work location from Denver to Austin months ago. I was finally all set to move in just a few weeks. I signed a lease for a house. My wife even got a job there. She already gave notice at her current job. Today I was told they could no longer accomodate me there and that working full time remote from there is not permitted. Wtf? Can they really do this?

It's been a long time since we've had a Bactine level burn here. @1k0+1wbpEXej gave you one.
You want aisle five.
Damn.
Can they really do this?
They just did.
Wow y'all have big egos. Do you really think leadership has the time to "toy" with the lives of low level analysts and managers/senior managers? You really also think department managers are wagering on how long you will last while they mess with you? Someone needs to slap you all back down to earth. Schwab has a legal obligation to maximize shareholder value. That's all. That's it. If you think the goal is to toy with your individual lives then it's easy to see why your career here hasn 't been very successful.
It's about toying with their lives and livelihood before forcing them to quit with no severance.
Yes, this is very true. If they can't get you to quit to avoid severance, they will go to any lengths to try to fire you with cause.
Schwab can do whatever they want. They have sc--wed so many employees Schwab sees you as just another number in their mind games. It's no longer about just laying off employees. It's about toying with their lives and livelihood before forcing them to quit with no severance. It's all entertainment and games for them. Your manager will probably act all apologetic on your way out the door but inside he/she is laughing at you. Don't be surprised if there are bets being placed on how much longer you will last.
Just stay put as long as you can and work them like they are working you so you can get the last laugh.
"Propitees" : most likely, the latest example of "lazy English", used when it's just easier to shorten or misspell a word than to take a moment to spell it correctly. An example would be the use of "prolly" instead of the word "probably".
Do you have eggs in TX? We don’t thanks to the new cage free law. Do you pay 10 cents a bag at the grocery store as a state tax? Do you pay a ridiculous amount every year for vehicle registration, car and home insurance? Do you have wildfires so bad that people are unable to get home insurance in parts of the state? Is the traffic so bad that you avoid weekend day trips? No? then stay in TX! 1/4 of TX and CA moved here now more people are leaving the state than coming to CO.
What are propitees?
Evrybody is Austin is pretty much getting laid off. Yeah they may let people work remotely for a bit until evrything's been transitioned but they are lookin to reduce headcount not just sell off propitees.
Dude you are on the list now. Careful you will be laid off sometime in the next 18 months for sure. Same thing happened to a co-worker who moved from West Coast.
Enroll in Baylor and Learn Coding. Classic. Then you can become CIO like dennis howard lol.
No promissory estoppel claim is going to fly in the land of Greg Abbott. The main reason so many companies are moving to Texas is because they allow them to sc--w over their employees.
You can always enroll in Baylor who is taking over the campus and learn coding.
If true be thankful Colorado is a total joke! High cost of living, high crime, few jobs and most call it Calirado since it’s the next CA! At least you have jobs in TX and no state income tax.
You should sue.
They want everyone out by 06/30/26. I didn't hear that they won't be allowing people to work remotely but they definitely don't want any more people fully remote than necessary so I get why they pulled your transfer.
Look up promissory estoppel
Aside from taxing Google's servers there is no reason to do this as there is no applicability. The tax on Google's servers is comparable to the neutrino that just passed through your table.
“MD/HR Here” posts never have been, and still aren’t funny. I can’t believe people actually think they’re legit.
Look up promissory estoppel
Oh no.
Anyway.
HR leadership team here. Impersonating Senior Management violates the Schwab Code of Conduct and those who do so will face disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Your IP address has been logged and you will be held accountable.
dude they should have put 192.168.270.480/32

No one can claim that we have smart people here. No. One.
The IP address is a company one and is making fun of the MD here person.
That you conflated them and the other commenter is hysterical enough. That you think they could actually see the IP address is tragic. And it has nothing to do with compliance training.
MD here. I can 100% confirm that there are absolutely no plans to close the Austin campus. To those spreading baseless rumors that there are, you should be aware that we are tracking your IP addresses so that you can be identified and held accountable.
Worst kept secret in history
i call b.s.. Nobody is stupid enough to put in for a transfer to an office everyone knows is closing.
