Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Remember when work life balance was a priority?

We're now at the point where it doesn't even exist anymore. I've come to hate this place.

Cisco will move jobs to lower-cost geos (actually just 1 geo where it pt focus on) to achieve “savings”. This has been going on for a while now, and will just accelerate.
Decisions on who to LR are not quite informed. But be warned - do the weekly check-ins. These are measured and have visibility up the chain.
Some promo recommendations were blocked because they didn’t meet the target check-in metrics. Sure, it depends on the final decision maker, but I’ve heard this from a member of the ELT.

The next peon to take your job after you are LR'd this spring, has their resume already in Cisco'd LR system.

Brush up your typing and writing skills, to try to outsmart the HR AI systems while submitting your 700+ post LR applications post LR 2025.

Use current webex meeting presence fakeness skills as training for the two video interviews you land after the 700+ 2025 post LR job submissions.

Welcome to the rest of our lives.

Can’t focus until numbers come out. Am I in, or out?

Those who can't focus for the three months preceding every quarterly conference call need to be out.

No.

Then again I either worked long hours at competent companies building skills or at wildly incompetent companies like Cisco building bank while using my free time to build the skills I needed for the next competent company. I look at some slackers who thought they already knew everything and could just show up for 40 hours a week, which they actually found later in life when they were issued their Home Depot uniforms.

It took longer than expected but the days of an artificial middle class where the education, housing and a lot of high tech job opportunities that once made the US the leader in the world funded in part with a 94% marginal tax rate are long gone.

Work force has awakened. No more job security. Next layoffs in February.
