Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

This place seems to lose its appeal more and more with each passing day

I know why those of us who've been here for a while are staying here, but I don't get the newcomers. What's attracting people when this place has lost every advantage or incentive it might have offered once upon a time? How desperate are people these days?

It lost appeal when the expat infrastructure ie housing and medical and the other parts of life there that made it similar to home, was “Saudized” or whatever they called it. From there day to day life became more difficult and frustrating for our families and we finally packed and bailed.

Totally agree with you on the validity of the PMP. It could be useful in a more honest setting. Now it as you described, simply a nefarious tool...corrupt.

The under performers as you put it are exclusively locals and regional bottom feeders. Why is it that every expat in my department only ever gets a max of an E rating? I can speak from personal experience, I’ve never had such a rating in my career and I come to Aramco a suddenly I’m “mr. average”. Get real. As others have said the company would be awash with discrimination lawsuits in the western world.

The PMP process has zero to do with merit or skill. Locals that swan in at 10am and leave at 1pm get promoted like they are the second coming. Because they wear the right thobe and have married the right cousin. That’s the way management want to run the company, it’s their call. But to pretend it’s some kind of fair, egalitarian, modern company with progressive working practices…come on man. The next year ahead could be the nail in the coffin, Aramco certainly hasn’t fixed the roof while the sun was shining.

Only the Under-Performers are complaining about the Company. You cannot use Moaning to motivate yourself into success.

If you’re unemployed or from a low pay jurisdiction it is still a step up. If you have family in the region it’s also attractive.

It will always attract TWNs, 2nd passport brigade and and moon watchers regardless 🕋🇸🇦🙏

Sometimes people just need a change...of pace, or location or the status quo.
