RTO is there to justify RE expenditures. The greater density they create, the better the RE costs look. It has little to do with "collaboration"
I do my time show up to "collaborate" (with my team overseas) so they leave me alone.

People need to understand what is driving RTO- money. Due to local business (restaurants, etc.) government lobbying, companies are now getting tax incentives to force people into an office. It is both shortsighted and id--tic, here's why- the money they are saving by having someone work onsite are lost by losing top talent. I'm seeing department after department not able to find qualified engineers for their tools because highly qualified candidates refuse to relocate. As a result they are forced to hire lesser qualified candidates. This has resulted in things such as application outages and extremely long uptraining durations, both of which probably cost more money than the tax saves. But, I guess the bean counters know best.
Aren’t these beachy homes a sinkhole/hurricane away from being gone though? I’d never move to Florida.
Locations will change only if the Ops leader and Kevin sell their Beachy homes in the Tampa area. Thats the only reason why we moved jobs down there .
Tempe, AZ or bust
All good until the preferred locations change (again) then what
Would that pertain to L.A. HQ though?
The RTO campaign is real. By 2026, everyone that works remotely from locations significantly away from an office is subject to layoffs. This is the current plan from upper management so start looking for something else unless you want to relocate to a "strategic" site.
Pushing people out for location reasons is obviously there to lay people off and swim through anti discrimination laws. I find it odd that this has not been challenged through the court system properly yet. It’s not like office workers are equal to employees of a manufacturing plant where the location is a critical aspect. Most office workers prove during Covid that they can provide the work in a remote setting. In many positions being located in a certain time zone could be beneficial (eg central time as it’s accessible and aligned closely with eastern and western time zones) so even without the office presence there’s a benefit of it. I’m not even going to mention positions with exposure to international colleagues.
It may be a brief respite and then they will just eliminate the position in those towns and open the role in a strategic spot.
