Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

This is us

We are gonna need a total revamp of Crown after this fiber sale. I doubt Crown will offload SC. They are gonna keep it and mimic towers structure. There's gonna be a huge amount of folks going to the buyers side because we got fat in terms of fiber...JB turned Crown from a wireless tcom mindset into Fiber driven one. And it's gonna be sad to see that if they don't go to the buyers side, fiber driven folks are gonna be laid off. KP was brought back so she can run both SC and Towers...There's gonna be a lot of Network driven folks with poor ROI gonna be shut down...simple is better...we support the carriers, but in the past 5 years, we tried too hard to be like them instead of just support them and that was the downfall. We are gonna go back to our roots in 2025 post sale completion...I'm keeping my head up.

By the way everyone is suddenly so interested in small cells and staking their claim to any node count they can SC is not for sale. Sadly I think all the senior leadership will be staying and will continue to manage SC it like it’s lightower and fiber.

I doubt it’s Zayo by that language alone. They wouldn’t have paid $8b for the fiber. TPG looks like it’s the clear winner and best outlook for everyone involved.

And remember, none of the latest fiber companies recently acquired by Crown had Small cells…the last one that had SC attached was NextG…that’s when JB bit the apple.

Another indicator that what’s for sale here really is just fiber.

Better hope it's not Zayo, they dismantle and destroy most companies they purchase.
I was at Allstream 20+ years, then laid off with about 50% of my co-workers shortly after te takeover.

My Chevy Equinox held its value better than that fiber.

lol these threads are funny. SC and Fiber go together, and after that sale is done American tower and crown will merge within 2 years of the final transaction. They ran the whole company into the ground.

The $8M is for both. Everyone loses. Towers gets less of a capital influx than expected. Fiber is still strapped with Small Cells. Small cell loses bargaining power of Tower agreements.

Some interesting takes on why SC was being put with fiber, as if fiber’s financials didn’t immediately look better as soon as they separated their financials 2 months ago. Also hilarious being the buyout price went from $10B in October with them combined, to $8B for just fiber

You are missing the context of this post by implying the business’ of SC and Fiber need each other.

They do not need to be a ‘business’ together.

The carriers did not sell their Copper/Fiber when they sold their towers to get $$$ to reinvest into their business. Not all carriers even had fiber/copper to begin with…

We are talking business’.

We need power, but you aren’t gonna tell me that power is a foundation of wireless tcom too are you?

The businesses don’t need to be run together to be successful. Hence the differences of Crown and AMT and SBAC. And why their businesses didn’t tank like Crown did.

SC is only talked about with Fiber is because Crown transformed their business case for Fiber W/ SC because JB wanted to become a Fiber company.

JB was using Tower profits and mixing it to grow his desire for Fiber.

And Elliot put a stop to that.

@1znw+1w5OtUyU, you said “Fiber is not wireless Tcom. It’s a means of data transport” but fiber is the literally the backbone of modern telecom infrastructure which wireless telecommunications sites rely on.

I am in sc and would love to work in the crown frame work away from lightower mgt and structure. Once sc went to network it went downhill

Fiber is not wireless Tcom. It’s a means of data transport.

Nothing wireless about it.

It’s like saying the method prior was a big thing…remember laying copper was the previous method before the need for more data throughput.

Like Streaming services today…it replaced ‘Cable services’ to watch tv channels. Or Satellite tv for comparison… fiber is a method of data transmission….not necessarily for wireless cellphones and devices…that’s still the difference.

Small cells will still be attractive…but one of the main concerns between Towers and SC is that towers was once owned by the carriers…so their wireless networks depended on that foundation.

SC today is supplemental to that Tower network…and in only some cases it’s a need when they find it more cost effective to serve a small footprint that needs coverage, it’s better to have SCs over already built towers that are congested with user traffic…What hurt JB is that the carriers pivoted away from MMW. No more 50k nodes per year growth. (Because it caused Covid) lmao.

Remember how many times Crown moved SC between fiber and towers in the past? They only really moved it to Fiber because the SC, to JBs mindset, was just boxes on poles and the bread and butter to him was fiber that provided those poles the service…he made the wrong move. And instead of listening to Elliot the first time, he doubled down his Fiber mindset and dug Crown previous fundamentals deeper in the mud.

He knew fiber was not a highly profitable piece…so he tied SC with it…to make it more valuable. All the talk of Verticals…and new sales divisions…all to market Fiber…to help his cause.

SC and Towers are staying with Crown Castle. Especially if that $8b figure is what’s being tossed around is accurate.

Crown will be doing future business with this new buyer for fiber. Don’t forget that.

This is gonna be a win for the street and for all the folks that are already rich.

Hold on to your stocks. I say we are at $140+ before 2026.

A humble opinion. Folks are so concentrated on the fiber and small cell review. They don't see that we are now a tower company in decline with ATC style management for the sites. The fiber and SC was up for sale before JB left....

Dividend isn't growing.

Fiber is still considered wireless telecom. Fiber optic cable is still communications infrastructure.

Whoever buys Crown fiber whether it’s TPG, Zayo, or other companies will give Crown fiber employees the option to apply at the new company. Just like applying to any external jobs.

If not offered a position at the new company, a lot of current Crown fiber staff will get the boot from new company in 3-6 months after the acquisition most likely with severance.

This is what usually happens during an acquisition of this magnitude. The new company is not going to retain everyone from Crown fiber.
