Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Cork office attendance causes an interesting dilemma, doesn't it?

On the coffee talk today, Our Glorious Leader shared the RTO attendance numbers per region and per office.

We all know the "Line of doom" is 70%, which most offices did meet. Cork? 39%.

Read that again. Cork is at 39% compliance with the RTO mandate.

So what exactly is Hock going to do? If Cork was close, he could just keep the threats going, tell the they are near the line and kick the can down the road. But they aren't close. They aren't close at all.

It forces Hock to either actually do what he promised and close the office, which would be a major blow to GS and cause a lot of unhappy customers; or he can not close the office and teach everyone that all you have to do is hold out, and he will cave.

I honestly can't decide what he will do. Hock is too much of a businessman to shoot himself in the foot and really close the office. But he's also an egomaniac who can't stand being defied by the little people.

As a follower of Eris, I say godspeed and "Go n-éirí an bóthár leat", Cork. Thank you for your service!

Then why are you STILL here?!
I got it. You are still bitter and angry. Great for you.

Hocks solution is simple. Fire those that doesn’t show up and keep the 39% that do… at least for a little while longer.

Amazing how every message gets the same number of up votes as down votes.

Totally natural.

Nothing strange going on here…

Amazing , who would do this? Is it Hock’s other secret passion after taking attendance of his students?

In Hock-o-vision we all look like tiny ants.

Sometimes he pulls the legs off or uses his magnifying glass to burn us alive.

Good times… good times.

As the share price increases, hock gains a lot of leverage as people realize they are earning twice what they can earn elsewhere.

Hock has been known to go line by line with remote employees and have the GM's justify keeping them. Hock is not loyal to his GMs either so they are under a lot of pressure to get their BU in order. As the majority of layoffs have been done, hock with move good attention to in office attendence.

A couple of rounds of this and people will fall in line.

I don't see hock rolling over on this. I've seen in many times before.

Almost sp-t out my coffee, mate! As a person in GS that has worked both pre- and post-APJ transfers, let me tell you that APJ doesn't even cover APJ.

Yay up the rebels! I'm glad I took my redundancy when I did. Making more money now than when I was working for VMware - ex SE. Lol, and no more sh*tty 1 to 1 meetings with cr-ppy managers or weekend working for me.

Get out while you can.

Let's see... work from home under the exact same modus operandi as working in an office because all your coworkers are spread out all over the planet -OR - waste hours of your life commuting to an office, increasing your carbon footprint with your commute, being distracted all day by lazy gossiping coworkers, pulled into useless manager meetings, communicate with your coworkers just like you did from home, continue to do the exact same job exactly the way you did it from home, while knowing you are going to be terminated regardless of whether you RTO or resist like Cork. Good times, people. Good times.

There are numerous rumors that the Cork office might close next year. With APJ being able to provide 24/7 coverage at a lower cost, it seems plausible. Most of the management team has already left, reportedly pushed out by the remaining directors. I’m honestly surprised you’re still working in such a toxic environment. Former VMware employees who’ve moved on to new jobs are much happier. You should consider leaving before the rest of the Cork team is forced to search for new roles all at once.

You know the campus next to ours? SRI. Stanford Research Institute SRI. A CIA cutout for shady research. VMware also came out of a Stanford project. These are all CIA fronts. Now they are selling the CIA assets to China deepstate.

Hello! I'm Microsoft Copilot, your friendly AI assistant. How can I help you today? Whether you need information, want to brainstorm ideas, or just chat, I'm here for you!

is stanford research institute involved in cia psychology experiments?

Yes, the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) has been involved in CIA-funded research related to psychology and parapsychology. One of the most notable projects was the Stargate Project, which explored remote viewing and other psychic phenomena. This research was funded by the CIA's Office of Technical Services (OTS) and aimed to investigate potential applications of psychic abilities for intelligence purposes.

You commute to Palo Alto to see the local elites walking their dogs in the rolling hills and meadows. Why they can't fkking build some houses there. Some local parks are restricted to residents. Most offices are empty. Half the campus is empty. That is 50 acres su-king air. Many offices around the campus are empty. This is dystopian. Nothing makes sense anymore. These elites are walking their dogs everyday from 9am to 5pm. No one works. Just walk their dogs and drive to the downtown for lunch. The immigrants are there to work. I will become a local soon. Thanks to Hock.

Housing crisis is there everywhere. Most cities like Palo Alto, Bangalore etc are silly expensive. Yeah hock has a house in Palo Alto. But who else has a house in Palo Alto. The elites are f-kkkkkking with the plebs. You want people to commute hours everyday for what. You forced people to work from home for two years. Now you want people to commute for hours? The whole capitalist experiment is crumbling. France has no government. Germany has no government. South Korea has no government. I admire Ireland. They are enlightened. Man what do you do with the elites changing their mind 180 degrees every other year? Its all going to shittttt. Just smile and wave. Survive.

There are still thousands of remote workers. RTO is just BullShhhitttt to get rid of some people. Most of what Hock says is BullShhitt. No one is there to call the BullShiiittt to his face. All the useless leaders su-k up to him because they are replaceable. The coffee talk felt more like a retirement speech. Nothing of any use. Just the normal semi business demand peaks and lows BullShhittt and then some more trillion dollar shitttt. Ignore. No leader knows that is going on. Things turn on a dime. Waste of time to analyze what anyone says anymore.

It's not so much a protest thing with th Cork employees, it's a symptom of the housing crisis in Ireland Most now live scattered around the country as a result of housing issues. The reality is a lot of the senior tenured local staff left backn February

What differentiates cork to other offices is corporate tax. Ireland is a safe haven for companies in terms of corporate tax and that’s why you see most companies would have Ireland as their Europe HQ. I’m guessing it’s based on this that cork might survive this but for how long though

"Sorry to tell you, but while Hawk is many things, he isn't stupid. Do you honestly think he would just leave Europe customers stranded with little to no support?"

He certainly is not so stupid to spend millions on an office that 30% of the staff show up to use. This is why so many office consolidations and closures happen - including pulling out of a whole country and supporting it out of somewhere cheaper, from Bulgaria to India etc. Ireland is a popular support center in a lot of companies because - guess why - cheaper than US continental EU. If you want your office to not get closed, just tell your coworkers to show up to work so you're not listed below the attendance line of doom. It's called that for a reason.

Sorry to tell y'all that HT does and will totally close whole offices if attendance is too low, and your thoughts on "can't" or "never would" are moot as are any warnings of "would make customers angry". Customers feelings are only worth what they pay at Broadcom. If If BRCM is paying for an office no one is actually showing up to use, which seems to be the choice of those in the Cork office by never showing up to work per its attendance #s, they shut it down and get a much cheaper smaller one elsewhere to do whatever that office was doing. It's that simple biz math, nothing else about sentiment or "can't". This is reality.

It's the "closing the whole office" thing that gets me. If Hock has said that any person that is below 70% will get the axe, that I could understand. But saying he will close the whole office is petty and (obviously) blowing up in his face.

I predict Cork will "improve" by selective firing of the worst individuals, which will make the overall number look better. But closing the entire office? No way.
