Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I received an offer from another company this week

The pay and benefits are utterly disappointing. This is the first offer I've received since I started looking about three months ago and it feels like a slap in the face. As much as I want to leave, I'm not ready to accept a pay drop of more than 30 percent and fewer benefits. I'm now completely demoralized.

Employment with Intel is unpredictable at this point. I'd say take the new job and keep on looking. The pros will be that you expand your network and gain new skills. The con is the salary but if you are able to withstand the investment, then I'd say go for it. If you stay at Intel, there's not a lot of movement or opportunities. You'd get that just by taking on the new role. There's a lot of strife and morale issues and this may last for sometime. Who wants to continue to work in a toxic environment? The new role will likely be refreshing and challenging in a good way. If you can, I wouldn't just focus on the salary. I'd focus on what it will do for your career. if nothing, then stay with Intel. You went through the trouble of applying and interviewing for something that interested you. What about negotiating your salary?

You will be making an epic mistake if you don't take it even for substantially less pay.

be happy that you got a final offer letter. People are not even getting interview calls, are getting ghosted, or are getting screened over phone and then are never contacted again. Its a crazy market out there. I am proud of you for having made a cut in this kinda market.

No surprise, Intel pays above market and hired way too many people. So the downside is they have to do many layoffs due to poor staffing practices and you get hosed.

So , if you do have an Intel job, squirrel away as much savings as you can and live below your means since the risk of getting riffed is very high.

You're really lucky.
INTEL's reputation is completely ruined.
If I get a job with 30% paycut, I consider myself fortunate.

Continue looking. You don't want to work for an opportunistic employer that does not value talent and short change it. That's starting on the wrong foot. You might as well stay, get paid more and continue looking.

Hey guys, I took a 30k pay cut but figure I will make up the pay soon enough. The new company I am working for benifits package is comparable to Intel's if not better. There are good jobs out there, just be patient and willing to take a little less up front.

Surprise, most people are going to get a pay cut anywhere else.

Might not be a bad thing if it is work that you enjoy. And if you are not working now, your slap in the face pay is infinitely more than what you are currently making!

I don’t know how old you are but if you need to pay the bills you could take it and keep looking. I’ve done that a few times in my career (i’m nearing retirement) and it worked out well in the end.

You are one of the lucky ones. Most out right refuse to hire former Intel employees. At least the big brand names refuse too. Having said that most know Intel people are desperate. You aren’t alone. There’s 15k others right now begging for jobs. The other companies know this too obviously with the huge influx of resumes they are receiving. So they know they can low ball you. It’s simple supply and demand and factor in the Intel reputation and you will get a sh---y offer.

Despite this you should absolutely take it. And continue looking. Easier to find a job when you have a job. Good work landing this. Seriously be grateful you are one of lucky few.

In simple terms, if you apply to smaller companies, the total comp will be much less. Only with the top tech can you expect to make similar ranges.
