I've been with belk for 20 years and I am to have open availability,which includes nights and weekends. They just hired a full-time associate who gets 8-4 everyday.I asked about this and they said she has a baby at home.I had a baby at home too when I started and they would not work around my schedule. Is this a new policy with belk?

if it's not in writing in a handbook, then it's not policy. period. Belk can't make up policies on a whim for certain people, that's called discrimination.
Every policy at Belk is arbitrary - subject to change, according to what the store managers want or need.
Contact an employment attorney and claim discrimination. Are you over 50?
Change your availability to 8-4 everyday and see what happens.
