Software and support in Mexico or India

If you were in the US decades ago you would have been offered a chance to move to India. The local talent pool was completely absorbed back then and according to friends I kept in touch with after they moved back to India job jumping for more money was a big thing then. I am curious when I hear about people here saying the cost is still 1/4 of the US given those were the numbers presented by executives in all hands as to why they didn't want to hire in the US even back then.

There is no "right way" to do an LR in a company that is profitable and has stock up 10% over the year on top of dividends.

The stock is up 30% in less than three months because of the layoff announcement. If it stayed where it was before the layoff announcement it would be down over the past year.

Closing prices:

November 13, 2023: $52.23
August 12, 2024: $44.86
November 11, 2024: $58.63

Yes - you should anticipate LRs every year. It's a Cisco business strategy. There is no "right way" to do an LR in a company that is profitable and has stock up 10% over the year on top of dividends. That said, there are an infinite number of ways to do it wrong. Anyone impacted will take it personally and say it was done wrong. You have to just accept that you were caught in the cog machinery of a massive company driven by higher ups giving lower downs a "number" to manage to every year or cycle. Move on as fast as you can to get ahead of the curve in recruiting elsewhere (as you're now competing with everyone else who just got laid off). Don't get angry and suggest your boss, who laid you off, is a "do nothing incompetent id--t" (Trust me - there were many many people involved in your name getting on "the list"...Get angry when you see your layoff paperwork and see the employee profiles of who got cut....Read: age discrimination class action lawsuit just begging to happen.

Not a year goes by without layoffs. If you think it’s not going to happen you are in trouble already .

As Benjamin Franklin once said, nothing is certain in life except death, taxes and layoffs at Cisco.

Once Chuck's replacement takes over you should expect headcount to be reduced to 40K by end of 2025

The company announced early this calendar year that LRs would continue into 2025, likely in February like this year.

The restructure will resume in H2. Splunk will be ringfenced for 3 years, so the rumours go.

Not sure if you are planning for an LR event as part of your 2025 budget. If so, probability exceeds forecast of twice annual job cuts, typically occurring in Feb and October. Cisco just had 100+ TAC jobs eliminated in Belgium, so layoffs are routinely happening. More folks getting fired every day, and on PIP as Cisco way to save paying severances.

Come to this site often, and hopefully you get timely updates. Cisco doesn’t owe you any employment unlike whatever may sound like, its employment with you is at will. You may think you’re critical to Cisco functioning, but the reality is otherwise based on many long timers and their experiences. When it’s time, you’ll be just a number.

Cisco is following a similar playbook as most other large “tech” companies:

Management and specialized roles (sales, admin, etc) in the US
Software and support in Mexico or India

The later is more likely to get cuts. Feb 2025 is what people keep saying on here.

100%. Read back as far as this site has had a Cisco group to see why.

The probability exceeds 1! It's baffling mathematicians.
