Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Getting past it

Am I the only one in the last layoff who is struggling to get past it? I’m just finding myself getting angrier and angrier as each day passes and I know that this isn’t positive but changing that line of thinking is taking more energy than I have.

I hope that everyone else affected are don g better than I am.

Is there a single manager at NetApp that isn’t bad?

All of the managers I had before leaving were professional micromanagers. Their entire job was to delegate, task out work and update status. They basically provided near zero protection from outside teams or managers and absolutely no support when it came to career growth and vertical mobility.

NetApp is getting destroyed by outside hiring practices and poor middle management. The company constantly chooses to hire externally rather than promote great candidates internally. Those individuals come in with a few goals: maximize the value of their stock options, do big picture moves for bolstering their resume, then dip out and dump as soon as their stock options vest.

When you couple that with the sh-t-tier middle managers who are basically just professional seat warmers, you get a company in major decline.

Oh shut up, its not personal and nothing to be upset or angry about.

Do the minimum whole trying to get the maximum, conversely your boss will try to give you the minimum while making you do the maximum. Its business not family.

What do you mean "do the minimum"? I assume you're talking about employees just doing exactly what their job description outlines. What you really mean to say is that employees should do extra work for the same pay. Employees don't get extra pay for going above and beyond, and slackers won't get paid less for doing less than the bare minimum. Professional growth is actually the only reason to "do the maximum" as you suggest.

Get outta here George.

Of course it is personal. It became personal as soon as they required exclusive rights to your services in this field.

I've been watching the relationship between employee and employer degrade over the last 40 years; from partnership, to being a resource, to a purely transactional (monthly) payment, to now. Now there's an aggression and disdain on both sides and in my sphere, a rush to replace you with the cheapest 'resource' globally, or AI. The worse it gets, the more 'positive' the corporate messaging becomes, it's nauseating.

All of this is to say, you have a right to feel angry, I pray that you will be able to harness and direct that energy into something productive. Every day I work with more people who are in different time-zones and are unable to communicate clearly. They say it'll get worse before it gets better, but I'm not so sure. Buy BTC/gold?

For those of us left, save and invest whilst you can! I'd never touch the stock personally but it keeps going up and their purchase plans are generous.

It’s corporate America, don’t take it personal. Take your experience working with your colleagues and clients (positive hopefully) and separate it from the reality of working in corporate America. That’s all. You’ll be fine.
