Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

MD will be another case study of how a founder failed to spot and act on a market inflection

Rather than take Andy Grove of Intel’s “the paranoid survive” approach, he is so sure that it is always a case of “the answer is GEO, what’s the question”. Ridiculous technical arrogance and risk that has incurred eye watering debt resulting in an operational white elephant that is VS3 F1 and two further birds that we probably can’t afford to either insure or launch. If that wasn’t bad enough, he then throws either personal or regulatory rocks at the likes of Starlink and Kuiper. Utter stupidity given he needs to be partnering with the LEO mega constellation players. Or rather he needs to be paid off and the board instructed to entertain offers on potential acquisition.

Dankberg's been tone deaf since the viasat-1. Viasat was a niche company that filled the gaps, and was very good at it. Launching satellites is a big company game. The risk of failure is too great. Companies with deep pockets can absorb an anomoly as Guru the clown likes to call it. None of the viasat satellites have been clean deployments. They aren't that good at it. A failure that will ultimately put the company out of business, and/or sold off in pieces. Dankberg and his cronies have always had a hard-on to put up satellites. Hey Mark, you effed up a good company because of your arrogance. Baldridge picked Guru. With his resume I wouldn't have hired him to run a lemonade stand. Viasat has always had JV business peeps.

Yeah all those complaints to the FCC about Starlink were a really bad look. We couldn't beat Starlink with our technology, so we tried to beat them with regulatory complaints. We failed.
