Today’s sermon was about toxic relationships.
Lots of overlap.
place is a joke take it form a former Managing director.....
All of this is insane. Look at the productivity and engagement until they began taking WFH away. I understand they need folks in place b/c they own the buildings - give a commuter bump in salary plus extra PTO days for those actually coming in. Do events like they did in the past - while also doing virtual events to keep remote workers engaged and connected. It’s not one or the other. Why go back to the “we don’t trust workers” to embracing a variety of work arrangements. Need qualified people leaders though - that’s the hurdle IMO - most are just workflow mangers, not leaders.
Sorry, I copied the wrong quote re: last response immediately prior. Here's the correct one I wanted to respond to:
You all are still proving my point. The detest you have for where you work is obvious. I don’t need yet another dissertation on all the things you don’t like about the choices youre making. (Aka working in a place you hate). My ONLY point, which you all missed is, you claim it’s a big “schwamily” as title says but it’s evident you couldn’t care any less about your “coworkers”
We are adults working for a living. We do not need team-building activities that coerce us into sharing more than we want to, or doing stupid juvenile icebreaker activities. We work to provide a service to Schwab, and then we take home our pay.
A couple of team meetings per month to converse with our coworkers in a work-free setting, and maybe an offsite or two throughout the year is all we need. Meetings can be virtual.
Working from home has probably prevented a lot of employees from taking sick days or PTO more than necessary due to the flexibility, so you can even say that the employer benefits from the WFH shift! For e.g., if you’re free to cough and sneeze it out at home while working without getting dirty looks from co-workers, you probably don’t need that sick day. Or if you’re free to pop out for an hour or two to run an errand and make it up later in the evening, you don’t need to take that PTO.
There is only advantage in WFH/hybrid, no risk or loss. God forbid they lay you off one day, you’ll quickly see that all of that bootlicking you’re doing isn’t worth it. We are working to make ourselves a “living” first and foremost, which translates to the means by which we can live for ourselves and our family by exchanging our talents with an employer for money. Everything else is very much secondary, and does not require RTO5 to accomplish.
Team building was director bragging about all the things he had, how “cool” he was, how his income for trading got him all that. And cult members worshipping him. And few of us worked together, our teams are in other locations.
No thanks.

Hang it up, help yourself and start building that resume.
in office tactics can be highly insidious, sometimes even mirroring strategies seen in cult-like manipulative environments. These might include things like gaslighting, where someone is made to doubt their own judgment or perception, or triangulation, where people are pitted against each other to control dynamics within a team. The impact of such tactics is often cumulative, leading to stress, burnout, and a loss of trust—not only in colleagues but sometimes in oneself.
Understanding these tactics can empower people to better recognize and address them. There are several key manipulative tactics often seen in high-stress, competitive environments:
- Gaslighting: A form of psychological manipulation in which someone makes another person question their reality, memory, or perceptions. This can undermine confidence and make one more susceptible to further manipulation.
- Divide and Conquer (Triangulation): This involves pitting colleagues against one another or giving conflicting information to create divisions within a team, which keeps people from uniting and weakens the team’s collective strength.
- Love Bo----g and Withdrawals: This is a tactic where excessive praise or recognition is followed by sudden withdrawal, creating an emotional rollercoaster that leaves people craving approval and feeling unsure of their standing.
- Tokenism: Giving limited or symbolic recognition or responsibility to keep someone appeased without actually advancing their position or influence, fostering a sense of false advancement.
- Boundary Erosion: Gradually chipping away at personal boundaries, leading individuals to work longer hours or take on responsibilities outside their role without compensation or recognition.
Recognizing these tactics can make it easier to establish boundaries and seek support when necessary. Whether it’s family, colleagues, or supervisors, understanding these behaviors helps you protect your own mental and emotional health. Staying grounded in your values and having clear boundaries are essential to navigate challenging environments effectively. This Tactics are very hard to use when you away from there setting.
Downvote away, but you reading this know I’m spot on. Can’t have it both ways just cuz you hate your job, people. I encourage finding happiness and getting the he-l out of any situation you’re not happy with. Victimhood isn’t fun.
You can achieve all of the objectives you mention with a hybrid set up, or better yet, plan one-off days as needed for team-building activities. No need to be in the office 5 days a week.
Besides, a lot of the team-building activities are bullsh-t which forces you to share more of your personal business than you ever even wanted to. If you're tight-lipped or literally have no response for their icebreaker question, you feel compelled to make stuff up on the spot. It's so painful, these team-building activities once you realize how ungenuine they are.
Even the team offsites are insincere. We had a Strengths assignment for our offsides where team members take an assessment that reveals their top 5 strengths. Ends up not mattering because everyone on the team is spread thin doing everything (regardless of their strengths) anyway! It's all a facade!
But either way, there's no team-building objectives that can't be met via a couple or a few one-off meetings on-site during the course of the month. Everything else can be done virtually and with great success. Employers are not immune to changes in the employment landscape, just like we are not immune to their layoffs.
Team building after hours?
A cheap beer in a dive bar as we listen to a manager or VP drone on about their car?
Yeah, that happened.
Team building after hours doesn't change lack of respect, lack of reward or lack of trust.
All I see from this community (if you want to call it that) is how you don’t want to do team building things after hours, you want to WFH 100% of the time and you despise your managers when they try to get the team work Tied together. Now, yall say you’re a family? Where did that come from after the constant bi--hing that you just “want to work and get the he-l home”. Seems sus that you care all of a sudden about your peers.
Is team where not working from home , for 2-3 years during pandemic ?
Manager wants there job to be safe ?
90% of middle management add no value , if they dropped tomorrow nothing will happen.
ou despise your managers when they try to get the team work Tied together
They are getting team work tied together, they building there own mini cult, so they can survive.
Either you are naive or your in some cult which you call a team.

It’s a brainwashed cult. If you challenge the status quo, you will not fit in. Lack of acceptance of new ideas and the fruits of the free expression of critical thinking makes this Schwamily cult quite incestuous, and it’s only a matter of time before the company starts to suffer from the consequences of this in---t.
Be cautious when companies refer to themselves as a 'family.' While it may sound appealing, remember that businesses ultimately exist to generate profit, even at the highest levels of leadership. If an organization emphasizes a 'family' culture, it might be wise to critically evaluate their intentions and approach before fully committing.
