It's my take US government won't allow Intel to fail. What that entails, we can only surmise. One could argue cleaving the company between design and fab would align to industry trends (ref current ARM design and TSMC fab model). The bigger concern now is the bleeding of talented human capital. Intel needs a deep cleaning within it's existing Executive ranks, and an inspiring leader with the command and discipline of an accomplished military general. Currently the company seems to suffer from years of decay, leading to rot and grift

I do not want my tax dollars to enrich pockets of intel’s management and their friends and all of their enablers. As the Intel example shows, it shouldn’t be government’s job to select national champions. Let china or similar countries waste government’s money on so called national champions - basically a way to funnel wealth to managers and owners of those selected companies. If a company and its products are good, it should be sufficient. The US should not bail out Intel.
The profile would a Bad A*s with a great performance based comp plan and carte blanche to do whats necessary to execute. DEI takes a back seat. We're talking a merit based system
Who would want to lead Intel? After BK, they had to beg BS to stay as CEO, even as he publicly stated that he didn’t want the job. After 2 years, they had to scrape the bottom of the barrel and promise hundreds of millions for Pat to join. It’s not like Intel is a desirable place of employment for anyone competent or remotely ambitious about their career.
They bailed out the auto companies & banks for poor management, why not Intel?
It seems to make more sense to sell whatever possible and let more capable hands to clean up the mess.
