Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What’s the future of Australia

CCS project and any exploration work cancelled; does that mean the end is coming quicker and whether there will be any future redundancy packages coming our way? How many people do we need to decommission the assets.

We will be slowly move Australian expats back home and then laying them off over the next year or so. The writing is on the wall.

We all know after the completion of Altona project, it's time to finalize deal with the new buyer.

Australia has lost its status as a safe place to invest. Current government has implemented price caps and increased taxes/royalties on resources, has legalised environmental lawfare and is openly anti-gas.
Nationally, it's IR rules are taking employment back to 1970 style union standover days with an ever decreasing manufacturing base. Meanwhile the only jobs being created are government funded with growth being driven by astronomical rates of immigration of third world students, driving up house prices and rents. Most of the nation appears to be in mortgage or rental stress with high inflation still there.

Would you invest there?

There is no future. Just pay us off and we will leave.

Excluding Gorgon, the future is depletion of Bass Strait fields followed by reductions in work force. Hiring will be minimized and Pip will be maximized. The Future will look just like the UK North Sea...and Norweigian North Sea

Since Gorgon is operated by CVX, a very small Joint Venture staff plus LNG marketing can be maintained (a couple dozen people at most).

Isn’t everyone working from home now? Sure do miss the beautiful building on the river we used to have in Melbourne.

Without any specific knowledge, I would say don't be optimistic. Anyone in a HC10 country, particularly outside Houston, should be on notice.
