The Chicago plant was built in the 1950’s by a franchisee. It has been union for many decades. The layout and condition of the plant was horrible. It is on the South side of Chicago in a not so nice part of town. Truck access is difficult. There are four Pepsi plants within a couple of hours driving time to the Chicago 51st plant. Chicago Pepsi should have been closed years ago. Chicago Pepsi was due to close several years ago. The decision to close was reversed after the City of Chicago repealed their soda tax. Consumers are drinking less carbonated soft drinks. Closures will continue as consumer preferences change.
Didn't they Unionize there and strike a few months ago? How is that Union doing for you now?
Only 60 days' severance after 29 to 40 years? What the actual f?
Disgusting company
"As I walked through the door, I asked them 'What's going on? Are they about to shut the plant down?' And she put her head down," Smith told USA TODAY on Monday. "They said ... it's an old plant. It has a lot of work that needs to be done to it, and they weren't going to put any more money into it. And as of today, the plant was shut down."
