Thread regarding 3M layoffs

RTO is about getting people to quit

The purpose of RTO and Collaboration Days isn't to get us all back in the office, being productive, happy little worker bees.

Don't be deceived; RTO is specifically designed to drive some of us to leave 3M. If you with voluntarily they don't have to pay severance and they don't have to announce the layoffs.

They took some baby steps when they yanked the LTIP for everyone below director level (and also gave bonuses to everyone above!), but they didn't see sufficient attrition so they had to go further and roll out RTO.

The drop in employee morale is not a bug; it's a feature. They want to reduce headcount and this is the cheapest way to do it.

So tell me, what has the Thinkers deliver for 3M so far? Are they thinking hard to improve 3M growth, or are they thinking what to do at the comfort of their Wfh home?

There are Lifters, and there are Thinkers.

Lifters must be on-site to lift.

Thinkers can contribute strategy, direction and information from anywhere.

Lifters do not understand Thinkers. That's why they're Lifters.

OP, are you seriously going to quite because they are asking you to go back into the office for 3 days a week? Do you remember back when we were in the office 5 days a week and even to get out to work from home for 1/2 a day adhoc required manager discussion and approval? Wow... there are many roles which are 100% remote, go for those if you want/need to work from home 5 days a week. Those in manufacturing/lab can't work from home.

You work for a major company with good pay and good benefits, and you get butthurt when they require you to show up 3 days a week. I seriously hope the people complaining about this do quit. There are a lot of people that show up, get the work done and make sure that projects get done. Those are the people I want to work with. Sadly they are the ones that more work gets dumped on because the remote workers need someone who actually goes into the office to send that urgent package out, or get those samples made or other requirements that they could do themselves if they actually went in to the office. Seriously, if you're not willing to put in the work, then go somewhere else.

Or maybe it’s about returning to office…shocking. If you want a fully remote job no one is being forced to stay at a company where they are not happy.

What's the point of supporting RTO?

Are you just mad that other people had a nice perk and you didn't, and so you want it taken away from them so that you don't feel like a second-class employee?

Very mature of you.

Says someone who is all butthurt they have to return to the office. There are a lot of us who have been at work everyday since the beginning of the pandemic and do not have that lovely benefit you so casually whine about.

Do you know how hard it is to get an engineer to do their job when they are at home? Do you truely understand how difficult it is to get someone to give you support when they are never in the office. It can take over a day to get a response on something that should be taken care of within an hour.

No, I am not all, I love you Pete! I do understand that while you may LOVE you benefit, it actually makes it harder for a lot of us to do our jobs.... you know, the people who actually do work around here making stuff. Seriously, quit complaining like a three year old. It's not fair. Life isnt fair so deal with it. I had empathy for your situation but lately, I am getting really tired of you all.
