Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Are we likely safe until spring?

I decided to leave, and need more time to find another job. It would be great if they leave us in relative peace until at least Feb and March. I just can’t be a part of this company anymore. I used to like my job, but the way we are all being affected by poor decision-making is becoming unbearable. I don’t want to spend my whole career running in place and being anxious about losing a job that means nothing to me.

Medtronic will slowly lay off people. They don't want the press to write about them.

The only jobs that are “safe” at Medtronic are employment law and employment relations- the 2 teams who have to manage the layoffs.
Layoffs will probably happen before the end of the fiscal year, with some occurring in Feb and March with everything completed by the eof.
To the questions about mdt severance, that has been answered many times. Reminder- The usa has no severance requirements. When anderson accounting crashed, no one got severance.
If you can find other employment, it is past time to leave medtronic. Most of gm’s proteges have left, it’s past time to leave.

Raises have to be in the budget or come from savings, found money, but not absolutely reductions.
No doubt it will be harder.

Go back and watch Gary Corona’s recorded S&T Conference presentation. It’s all there.

Where did you hear this?

I’m hearing each function has to fund their pay raises through head count reductions so we can improve margins. However this won’t make more customers buy our products, and if we don’t invest in R&D and NPD the company will be in a doom loop death spiral. Are laid off people getting guaranteed severance pay from Medtronic? Is it a lump sum or paid monthly? Does Medtronic have the cash flow to pay severance to all the people they are cutting?

I wouldn’t assume you’re ever safe now. Look at last week’s post about layoffs in Neuro and Surgical. Yes, it would be nice if you could be confident that you’d be safe until May.

Wishing you a new job and brighter career future in 2025!

You are fine till May 1st when the new fiscal year kicks off. If you stay till then you will also get your MIP.
