Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Unemployment in NC?

I was laid off in the September layoffs. I live in NC. I've filed for unemployment and today I was denied until March x, 2025. Stating my severance as a reason.
Has anyone in NC had this experience or are you able to collect unemployment in NC? I need to file an appeal and I'm looking for some info.
Feel free to contact me directly at teressajimenez@yahoo.com
TIA.

I’ve been laid off twice in NC. I filed for unemployment the day after my employer, Cisco/other, the day after my employment officially ended. In both cases, it was 60-ish days after I was notified as I was told not to work or return to the offices during those 60 days. In both cases, I received 4-6 mo of severance by signing the agreement not to sue.

I’m not sure if Cisco is now denying the claims during the severance package window now whereas before they didn’t deny it, so the state just paid it. Or if the laws around unemployment have changed or if NC is enforcing them more stringently since 2020?

I don't think you have grounds for an appeal. You have severance to live off of until Mar 2025, so what's the problem?

why don't you get a minimum pay job at Walmart or Subway, etc? you will earn more than state unemployment benefits, even on a part-time basis.

each state's policy is different. in NC as your package was 6 months' salaries starting from 0915, so you are paid until mid March, then your UI could start on March 15th. in cA the UI policy is different.
