How to succeed as a leader at Cisco! Simple 5 steps

  1. Make a lot of noise - LinkedIn and elsewhere, Talk about product principles rinse and repeat, quote successful companies etc
  2. Make org changes fire a few people, especially those who do not agree with you. Show the world I have made these changes
  3. Hire 3rd rate people from other companies - Does not matter what the quality of folks coming in - just say "because of me I am attracting talent from other companies". Surround yourself with "yes men/women"
  4. A bunch more lousy acquisitions - dying companies - mark my words you will see some lousy acquisitions in EN and DC
  5. Finally get back to magnifying yourself on LinkedIn/social media. share daddy / mommy issues with a cry for attention, more product principles, picture with other successful people, host parties at home

RIP CISCO

Like many businesses, Cisco experiences The Peter Principle

it's more like the Dilbert Principle where people weren't good at any level and simply pushed up the ranks to get them out of the day to day work. It's not like the ELT wrote CSCaa00000 through whatever Cisco is at now (CSCw$#####?)

  1. Prepare plan B to move as a leader to another company, in the case that you will be responsible for too many lawsuits in Cisco

Like many businesses, Cisco experiences The Peter Principle

The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to "a level of respective incompetence": employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another.

The Peter principle is therefore expressed as: "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence."
