Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Either stick it out or leave before you are stuck.

Let's take employee 1 a nice young 30 year old. They are at a crossroads because of subpar raises and bad treatment. The decision before them is leave or stick it out. The path to retirement is long for them at least 20 years. If they stay they need to avoid pip and getting let go. The odds are against them as they are not a hipo. The worst thing for them would be to suffer for 10 more years and then get piped. To be piped in your 40s is the worst. To give your all and just be tossed away like the trash. The odds are against this person making it. They could leave now and find a functional workplace. Their mental health would benefit from a good place. The world will change in the next few years for the better of the environment. The consequences for exxon would be drastic. If you think working for this he-l kle is bad now imagine gasoline demand dropping. It will happen eventually either in 2040 or 2050. So you can stay at this dinosaur or move to an industry that is ready to thrive in this new world. The choice is yours young ones. I myself left to work on automation, robotics and electronics. I don't forsee a good future at excon. It will only get worse and more dysfunctional as time goes by. I can only advise the young but cannot make the decision for them. So many are delusional about exxon. All one has to do is look at the stories on this board to see their future. Good luck to the young and I hope your voyage is better than mine was. Remember the past has a way of repeating itself with new victims. That is what I call the new hires. New feed for the meat grinder. It reminds me of the young German ww1 soldiers going into the sla-ghter. Knowing what I know now back 20 years ago I would not have stayed. I made it to retirement but many others were piped in their 40s. I only lasted 17 years and it was enough for me. At the end nothing I did was right.I was constantly micromanaged by the boss. They were trying to drive me out and driving me crazy. Literally trying to f-c k my mind up. The did not succeed as I took a no care attitude towards work. Others were staying late and trying to kiss a ss just to make a few more years. I am glad I left as it was intolerable. Have an exit strategy either young or old.

If the pattern of age discrimination is not clear pay more attention. OP is right the last thing you want to be is over 40 and PIPd so you should choose your own timing to leave. Find a different job you want and develop the required skills then jump ship and don’t look back
