Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many got a zero percent raise? Downstream or Upstream?

I just got my only zero percent raise in 22 years of working for exxon. I am in upstream and ranked good. I am in the middle of my CL band and retirement eligible at 58 years old. The supervisor said the sharp system said I was awarded a 0 percent raise. I have never gotten a non raise except for the years 2014-2017 as there was a pay freeze for 3 years. I could not see the screen and they would not show it to me. Could this be a mistake? Can we contact HR to verify if and what raise we are awarded? Supervisors that can see this system please chime in and explain. I know of at least 5 employees that got a zero raise like me. Is this the new norm for exxon? If it is not to many people will stick around for this cr-p.

The company does not need near as many executives because of the reorganizations and massive headcount and asset reductions since 2017 when DW took over. Fewer functional Pres, EVP, SVP and VP and Country managers and Refinery managers needed as upstream fields, refineries, gas stations and entire countries sold. The reduced need for executives means means fewer people need to be promoted into CL30 to 38 and fewer into CL 28/29. The entire promotion matrix is impacted by the lower demand for executives. Next, DW his happy with hiring senior outside executives from outside, the the need for developing and promoting internal talent is further reduced if a third of senior management is outside hires. Promotion matrix can be dramatically slowed.

It happens. Three years at O, topped out my salary band and 0% raise this year. Once you’ve reached your deemed potential, you won’t get promoted to a higher CL and the raises are over. I am grateful for the salary, and realize this is a first world problem…..all the same I’ll think twice about going the extra mile in the few years I have left

I dropped from Outstanding to very good and received 0%. In frustration I went back and watched the HR compensation training and realized once you have gotten outstanding, there is little to no reason to try. Even if you get outstanding again, you will only get market increases in salary without a CL bump. I now realize I should only try after a CL bump, then coast.

How in the he-l do you get a promotion every two years. I call BS on this. My generation got CL bumps every 5 to 10 years no matter what. I think 5 to 7 years was the average no matter what the ranking. Think about it if you start at cl 25 you cant be a 33 in 16 years. I only know of one person who went from cl 21 to 23 in two years. He was a chosen transfer from California. They planned big things for him either as an engineer or supervisor. He shocked them by quitting and returning to cali. One guy timed out at 63 to get his last cl bump to 26. He didn't do s h at for the last 3 years and was surprised for the cl bump and raise. He was piped the next year. Their is a max cl you can attain it is known to the supervisors. They won't tell you because it would demotivate you. Your fate is sealed no matter what you do.

Promotion every 2 years puts you at CL26. Most start at CL 22. I received no raise last year even though I’m E because I’m over the SR. I’m E again and not expecting much unless I get a CL bunch. I’m due for one but because my ranking was E the last 2 years I’m afraid it halted my promotion pace with downward revision in potential across the board. I’ll likely get close to 0% again without a CL bump.

Sorry... Legit honest question on one of the post below: how can someone be a decade top performer (I'm reading this as O or E for at least 10 years) is still at 26 and have had 2 yrs with 0% increase?
Is this possible?

Corrections being made to normalize salary bands across downstream and upstream. Means upstreamers above salary band won’t get a merit raise. This should have been explained to you - if not your supervisor is not doing their job.

OP, at 58 years old, get used to it. This is your future.

Your current ranking, CL and YEE dictate what you should be getting paid. If you are already paid more than that then you will get 0. At 58 you’re at the flat-ish part of the curve as well. Doesn’t help.

0% 2 years in a row. Site I'm at was bleeding CL 26/27s due to PIPs and people quitting. They needed some cannon fodder in 26/27 so they "promoted" me after well over a decade of performance that never left the top 2 buckets then dropped me to "good" (as if we are too stupid to know what "good" really means). Have had nothing but positive performance feedback from supervisor, management and KOs and have been given zero guidance on how to fix the problem...

100% raise at BTC is nearly equal to 0% raise in USA.

Keep getting 100% raises over in BTC and in 3 to 5 years your salary will equal a Janitor at a US site.

How much do you make and what job do you do? Most likely you are overpaid and your current role doesn’t justify the pay. The majority of employees at Exxon are overpaid.

0% this year and 0% last year. Ranked outstanding. Too close to retirement to leave.

Did you not take the new HR compensation training? It's designed to gaslight you. If your ranked excellent and at the top of your pay band, it very likely that you will get little to no raise, while someone is ranked lower can receive a higer percent pay increase

It means you’ve dropped in the ranking and are above your salary target … simple as that
