Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I'm so tired of the "we're family" lie

Cisco loves to preach about being a family, like it means something. But the second they see a chance to boost their bottom line, they’ll get rid of an entire team without a second thought. It’s all just talk, a way to make us feel guilty for wanting better. Meanwhile, they’re laughing all the way to the bank.

Family is a BS
Cisco laid off more than 10,000 in 2024 and still retained those who are in their network and books. Still there are so many managers and directors with no work and crunching cisco money and some d-mb managers with political connection getting promoted

Age discrimination is real...

It's real, but at a far smaller scale that most believe it to be. I'm retired now but I look at most of the people I worked with at Cisco and they didn't have basic skills from 40 years ago. They're not getting laid off because they are old, they're getting laid off because they're producing little more than bugs and busy work for others at extreme expense. There are other companies doing legacy work that would be career death for kids and they've been hiring the useful over 60 set from Cisco even in the past year.

I've been stabbed in the back by Cisco and many other have too, especially older and more Sr workers. Age discrimination is real, yet Cisco figures out legal ways around it. The only ethics at Cisco is to look ethical. We need the a good class action lawsuit to give back all the RSUs stolen from people in the LRs.

If you think you're family, just read all the previous posts about people who were ghosted immediately upon layoff.

Someone didn't read the Rules of Acquisition:

Rule 6: Never allow family to stand in the way of opportunity.
Rule 111: Treat people in your debt like family… exploit them.

Call us family, call us job creators, call us whatever you want as long as you keep voting to transfer to us all the wealth you create through increased productivity. Well, maybe at your next job.

What most of these corporate propagandists don't take into consideration about their employees being fed the "we're family" line is: many people have been traumatized by their own family, so the concept of "family" is not a pleasant one, it's the complete opposite.

"Family" doesn't mean security, warmth, happiness, and fun for a lot of people. Instead, "family" brings up horrible memories of abuse, betrayal, ridicule, abandonment, disrespect, disdain, neglect, dismissal, and cruelty.

Don't BS your employees with a concept that you ASSume will give them the feel-goods, when in reality for many, it turns their collective stomachs.

Yeah, its complete horse-hockey. I have no idea how some execs can muster up the courage to use that phrase.

We're a business. A Company. Not a family.

If you have a good boss they will try and help you succeed, even if its in a different role than you are in, but for the most part its a transaction.

I've been hear 20 years and have seen a handful of bosses truly care and help their people. A Handful = 5 or less.

Maybe you can get lucky and have one of those great bosses. But we certainly aren't a Family.

If you truly honestly believed the family lies, I think it is good you get sacked. And should have not been hired in the first place. There is no need for this kind of being naive in this world. You have a contract with Cisco and Cisco with you. Which states the stipulations on which you can depart. Do you have such a contract with your parents or kids ?

Layoffs every 6 months is not standard practice.

Yeah! It used to be even more often!

Layoffs every 6 months is not standard practice. It destroys company DNA.

Layoffs have been a standard part of industry for more than 40 years. Great job catching up!
