CBU Sale - Last Day is Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day with Chevron for most of us in CBU. While I am sad that I’m not leaving on my own terms, or with any choice really, I do appreciate the time I had with this organization. I came in at a good time and was even able to do some work overseas for a few years, and I am thankful for that. In the last couple of years, and especially over the 12 months, I was starting to look elsewhere as I not really excited about what this company is evolving into, but I do wish my Chevron colleagues the best. There are some fantastic people in this company and some of my closest friends I met through Chevron.

That said, those that are leaving CBU should consult with an employment lawyer or the Alberta Labour Board on termination pay. Although the FAQs state that Chevron does not have to pay because it’s an acquisition, this is incorrect. Make sure you are getting what you are due.

I will see most of you at CNRL. With change comes opportunity, and we have some fantastic people coming over.

Hi folks. based on the view of the lawyer that chevron hired for us, we are all entitled to the minimum termination pay b/c cvx issued our termination letters prior to sale close. had they issued them after the sale, we wouldn't be entitled. for employees with 6-8 years i think it was 5 or 6 weeks of pay and for those with >10 years it was 8 weeks of pay. its not insignificant! we have 2 years post termination to file a complaint with the AB labour board. also remember that we were employed by CCR and the sale of the asset was under the CCL company. for these reasons, i will be filing a complaint with the board after I receive our LTI and CIP bonuses.

I don’t think many people will think working for CNRL will be better than CBU, some of the comments in here are a joke. CBU HR is claiming they are not in a position to judge if offers were substantially similar. They are blaming it all back on CNRL if people don’t think the offers are similar enough. Great way to treat employeees chevron, should be really proud of yourself, you jammed everyone over to a bad company and haven’t had to pay severance……yet.

My friend in CBU legal said they received a single sloppily-constructed demand letter and everyone laughed at it.

CBU have received 48 Demand letters from people who accepted CNRL offers.

Today is your last day to demand your rights. Be factual and calculate every dime you will lose until retirement

Best of luck for everyone in our new home CNRL but do not leave without asserting your rights.

CNRL has great plans for the assets and the people and most people think it will be substantially better than work for CBU. Well done all!

So we're entitled to minimum termination per Alberta standards. Can somebody post a text that could be used for the complaint?

Cheers to new beginnings! Remember folks, Chevron or your employer are NOT your identity and if that's what you feel today, do something to change that.

Chevron also does not legally have to pay "termination pay". Good luck.

Correct, no severance. Termination pay is different. They are two separate things.

People just need to be sure they are being treated fairly under the law. YMMV, so seek your own legal advice.

Chevron does not have to pay severance because it’s an acquisition. That is correct. Nice to hear some good people like you are staying with CNRL.
