Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is anybody actually hopeful about next year?

All I see and read is despair. It feels like nobody believes 2025 will bring anything good. With no sense of optimism, it’s no surprise that morale is at rock bottom.

I can see things improving , talking with more customers small and large. Cases where we are even replace Anet or Jnpr. It’s our game to lose - sc--w up XR quality again and we will lose. Delay nx products again and we will lose. Issues with Cisco asics and we will end up like nortel soon. But it looks like if we don’t make mistakes 25 will be a better year than the last 2

We are far far away from Nortel 2.0. Cisco continue to generate 82 billion annual revenue and packet pushing needs gears. Yes our market share is declining. But we continue to get government contracts. Also keep in mind Huawei is out of OECD countries.
In these countries, companies and governments have very few choices-cisco/hp-juniper/arista/fortigate/polo alto.
Yes our market share will gradually decline, there will be pressure on margins and there will be gradual layoffs as we acquire more and more companies to stay relevant.
But Nortel 2.0 is far far away. The show will go on for atleast another decade.

Morale rock bottom means? Managers not conducting team meetings or threatening everyone to put on next LR? Please clarify.

Decades ago after the stock collapsed for 82 to 8, layoffs were rampant, there were wage freezes, dry promotions, rank-and-yank, one broken routing and switching OS was working its way to four, and executives said openly they were moving as much work as possible to countries where people would take 20 cents on the dollar it was rainbows and unicorns. You really missed out on "the good old days!"

The only real change is your current CEO lacks that soft southern lilt that made the mindless swoon and the stock is far higher than at any point under that previous CEO after the downfall starting in 2000. Go back years on this site and you'll see endless prophesies of everyone quitting Cisco after each "first" layoff at Cisco.
