This happens every five years…they will turn it down. Too many high and mighty attitudes in the HDC. They don’t want to be classified as train trash.

There MAY be too many that are still under the old "manager" retirement program, but once they are outweighed by the now blood then anything is possible. But those under that ond pension program need to understand that they currently have zero protection and could be cut loose due to being the high earners. Time will tell.

Every dispatcher should be willing to take this to an election by submitting an A card. Why would you not want to try for a guaranteed pay raise, better health care, etc covered under a collective bargaining agreement? If the dispatchers vote yes, the ATDA would have to present a first agreement better than the current compensation/benefits. If they don't, the dispatchers can vote down the agreement and send them back to the negotiating table with UP. If the ATDA still can't bring something decent to the table, the dispatchers can always have a decertification election through the NLRB and remain non-agreement. For once, don't let UP have the upper hand.

They better if they want to finish a career at UP as a dispatcher. If not, UP will end up getting rid of the highest paid and combine as many dispatching desks as possible without any scope of work or workload/territory mileage studies.
Aside from career-longevity, healthcare is the biggest advantage to being union. The non-agreement healthcare is rubbish compared to the union health insurance. If you were hired after 2003 you are not eligible for the company healthcare when you retire unless you are union. UP states this on their website under the retirement benefits just in case you think I am being untruthful. As a non-agreement employee hired after 2003, when you retire, you get to go find and pay for your own health insurance on the open market until you reach medicare age which is very expensive.
Never forget 2020 and how they treated you.

  1. 5% Raise on the way if they do organize and its compounded.

Cant forget the compounding.
They get to pay dues for the deal they where going to get anyways because a union that cant strike is WORTHLESS.
It's a big club and we ain't in it.

The only good thing a Union is good for is send you emails and a postcard once in awhile for a Union meeting. That's it. No more.

They are fools not to join a union? How has the unions helped working conditions? Have the unions fought to prevent layoffs? Nope. All the unions do is take a part of our paycheck and just give us platitudes. The unions just want our money and that is it.
