Ford can terminate 25% of the workforce and everything will be fine, even better.
Sorry, I just meant "End of 2025" and not "end of 2023“
That is news. This newly annoinced layoff of 4000 employees until 2027 comes on top of the layoffs they had announced in 2023 which affected of 3800 employees and which should be completed until the end of 2023. So while the latter is not finished yet they are coming up with another layoff announcement. The workers council does not sound amused. However in recent years the unions were all in for the radical "EU Green Deal transformation" without the slightest criticism. As consequence they now have to negotiate mass layoffs and severance packages.
Independent from this will be the closure of the Saarlouis plant in Germany which is finally going to happen in Q4 2025.
This isn't news. The reorg in Europe has been ongoing for quite some time and was annuunced by the leadersgip team last year in a townhall. It's just that they're finally starting to reach some of the target dates for completing the reorg.
I am surprised there are any left in Europe with the amount of cuts the past few years. ICE Powertrain engineering and testing was cut last year.
400 people got laid off at MAP.
It’s going to be complete by the end of 2027. so basically you have 4000 people no the pay roll doing little to nothing for 3 years su-king monies out of F, which will be bankrupt before then
The same battery materials used in the F150 could have made 3 low costs EVs
I don’t get it
Maybe some blue collar jobs will be laid off, but office workers are safe for the foreseeable future.
There is more than enough work and not enough people. And it is going to take more work than we thought to get our customers to transition to fully electric vehicles. We need to buckle down more now than ever before.
This is the by product of a "bet the company" move into EV. Upper management bets wrong and this is the end result. Jim and company should be gone for this. There job was to see around corners, navigate the winds of time and they have failed.
Ford executives play stupid games but the poor workers and engineers are the ones who win the stupid prizes.
They really need to clean house in the upper management ranks. Godspeed to all of those affected.
It’s going to be complete by the end of 2027.
Ford Explorer BEV sales in Germany were 500 vehicles last month. I suspect that the corresponding EU sales number was around 2500. The Cologne/ Germany Explorer/ Capri plant has a capacity of around 20.000 vehicles per month. That is the problem.
The Elon DOGE effect
Oh man...
The UK team was just told they have a townhall this afternoon to roll out the layoff.
