I can't shake the feeling that the recruiters and interviewers aren't being completely honest with me.

OP — did you take the job?
No. The place is untrustful.
Come on now, don’t sell yourself short, you are plenty stupid

OP — did you take the job?
I’m assuming not, but wanted to get closure ……
Competition is brutal, but would you rather be where the jobs are, or living at some retirement state?
I'm dreaming of moving to Utah while still raking in that sweet, sweet New York salary.
DREAMING. Not stupid.
No, there are still jobs out there. It may be bad luck, or you just aren’t good enough.
Employee who posted earlier this month claimed the job market was so dire, she had HOURS on her hands for, uh, personal exploration.

That said, once PE cuts their salary or lays them off, do you think they'll land another big-city paycheck? Nope, they'll be stuck with peanuts.
It's tough applying for high-paying jobs from less desirable states and cities. Recruiters and hiring managers often assume you're not cut out for the job or that you need to move where the action is.
Frisco, Austin, Boston, NYC, Denver, and LA offer great salaries and plenty of opportunities in tech, development, and marketing. Competition is brutal, but would you rather be where the jobs are, or living at some retirement state?
Yep, it's just a matter of time until these high-salary folks are pushed out. Their jobs will then be advertised with salaries that are half what the current folks are making.
This is going to be saving tens of millions of dollars in pure profit, annually.
The countdown has begun.
I learned we pay 200k+ to employees with known performance issues living in LCOL areas. Really, why the fu-k should anyone work hard?

That's been the case for years, but it's finally coming to an end.

Company has no integrity. They have lied to and cheated employees out of monies owed them. Unlimited leave is really no leave (like most tech companies). Just know that the owners of the company will have zero respect for you or your well being. Welcome aboard!
I was one of the many people let go in May and they are now advertising my job for a lower salary. Turns out the positions were needed but they just didn’t want to pay market rate value. Beware!
if you really need a job.
“ Let’s be real here—you’re coming off like some junior who’s never set foot in a conference before. Maybe focus on what you know. At Inspire two years ago, we had attendees openly calling our CEO a sandbagger while he was standing just five feet away.”
No one is berating someone to their face about a company they work at. Sure they make comments behinds someone’s back but not directly to them like they are some high school bully.
You may have seen too many rom coms where the manager in a corporate setting openly berates someone without worry of HR violations.
No one would do this in a professional setting.

“ I attended a business conference in NYC, and the moment I mentioned where I worked, half the table erupted in laughter. I felt so weird. One of them even quipped, "Still hunting for CMO advisors, are you?" Another one chimed in, asking if we were running the show with beepers and pagers.”
This sounds like you made this up. No one would do this in a professional setting
at this point being a crack dealer on colfax is more respected than a position at Alteryx.

In all seriousness, it depends on your situation. A lot of it depends on the manager you'll be reporting to, and your goals for this position. If you are looking for a fulfilling career that rewards people based on their merits, and great culture all around, you are probably not going to find that in general at this time. But again, there are small pockets where things might be working. It depends on your immediate manager and team. If you are coming in with your eyes wide open that you are just going to do what you are paid to do and/or if this is a transitional role for you as you look for something else, and you need a paycheck, i would say take it.

Engineering? Just do your work. Outperform people for 3 months. Then clock the fu-k out and enjoy the best wlb ever. My hourly rate is higher than most surgeons.
It’s a job with fairly nice people
Department?
This place is fine.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This place is fine. A lot of the negative sentiment here is from a string of layoffs that ended in May. It’s a job with fairly nice people and the money gets deposited to your bank account every two weeks.
Read the Glassdoor and Blind reviews, which may be a bit better than this place, which can be a cesspool of BS. The average tenure of an AYX employee is 15-18 months, so YMMV.
As long as you go in with both eyes open, and informed from a variety of sources, it's really up to you in terms of your tolerance for constant change vs. stability, perhaps higher pay vs. a bit lower pay at other places, and so forth.
Just read other threads in here.
