Fake news! Not true. I'm that certain of it, I'm come back here next week and admit if I was wrong and note went out. CONOCO announced they are returning to office more/less full time in January... not true for Chevron.

Doubtful, the downtown renovation will not compete until August next year at earliest, people will be moving from SR to Houston, and Hess integration will not be over until after September 2025, the earliest they can practically accommodate people in the right spaces will be Jan 2026 if all goes as planned.

In reality, losing hybrid is going to be because more than half of those supposed to be in three days, just aren’t coming in

In Houston this really isn’t possible until they do mass layoffs and/or change the floor layout (open plan?). We’ve recently gone from 3 days in office to 2 days in office because there wasn’t enough space.

Per VP at the Human Energy Conference: “we are at our best when we are on site, collaborating with one another face to face.” - I wish someone would have pointed out to this VP that with service centers in Manila, Buenos Aires, and soon India, we haven’t been face to face for a while and are moving more and more away from it.

I don’t think this claim can be absolutely confirmed, but it lines up with what the VP of CTC has been pushing for. Per VP at the Human Energy Conference: “we are at our best when we are on site, collaborating with one another face to face.”

Now consider they want to cut head count by 30% minimum across the board “through natural attrition” (the mantra at my refinery). This announcement would jump start that attrition.

Also, Mike Wirth is obsessed with Exxon and wants to model Chevron after them. Exxon never had 9/80 and went full RTO once the pandemic allowed.

All that to say, not sure anyone can confirm 100% but the stars are definitely starting to align for the end of hybrid. Maybe even 9/80, too.

Can anyone confirm this claim?

More than likely it is Jan 1 2025. If they announce it now and offer a package it will be easier to get their desired headcount cuts.

What’s the level of certainty on this? I was predicting announcements would come either February town hall or 3rd quarter and be effective January 2026 but moving this up makes sense to force people out and reach that minimum 30% cuts they’ve been craving.

Exxon has never been 9/80 nor hybrid after COVID. MW aspires to their strict disipline, beleave me.

Chevron better enjoy this period of slow hiring. When the next bo-m comes there will be a massive outflux of talent.

Well I can’t function in an office environment especially after this WFH boondoggle. People are germ ridden and now I will get ill and also have to deal with all those road hazards!! I won’t have time to do anything now because I will be exhausted from the commute and dealing with all the people in person.

There is office space glut in Houston. They will not be able to seep downtown towers for a reasonable price

The moment they announce full return to work is when everyone in the shared service centers is going to quit. Hybrid is a key reason they joined.

Having staff return to either San Ramon or Houston offices to work full time on site in January 2025 is not possible. Lakeside space was designed knowing MW planned mass lay-offs and HQ move in 2025. Lakeside was never intended to house everyone, so hybrid was allowed for their benefit. Until they let employees know if they are in scope to move to Houston ( or outsourced) things will stay 2-3 days week. Houston is under construction and fixing windows, so they are not going to make changes that will impact master plan to modernize the Enron buildings to eventually sell. Until ROM’s are done for all functions headcount in San Ramon and Houston will be “up in the air”. The soonest they could start would be January 2026. They are starting the rumors to keep us on edge, want to quit and make us feel lucky for hybrid for the next year while we watch the master plan unfold.

Its like they want employees to quit so they don’t have to pay to move a position out of San Ramon to Houston (or offshore)

Great! Now that we can’t work from home I am going to delete Teams and Outlook on my phone and never take my laptop home! My family will miss me during the day but at least I won’t be stuck on early morning/late night calls.

I’m starting to think executive leadership doesn’t want to keep or attract top talent with all of these decisions.

“I’d like to see how they attempt to justify why they are taking away the hybrid schedule”. Now that’s rich. Here’s a seriously entitled person. CVX is full of them. That’s what CVX has become….and that starts at the top.

I’ve heard both 4 and 5 days in office, both from reliable people. I agree that the message gets sideways when you claim the physical disconnect from the office of a part of the problem and simultaneously outsource functions overseas.

This will be so helpful to me since I support ABU from Houston. I guess this also means that I no longer have to take 8pm calls with Perth?

It's about time. What a joke that they even tried to run a company with people always communicating through a computer, relationships all digital, no team spirit or camaraderie, no face to face passionate technical debate while looking at data and tolerance for constant whining. No wonder company performance has deteriorated. Grow up or stay home without a paycheck weenies.

What makes it even better. ENGINE jobs are eligible for hybrid schedule depending on the position. Now think about that.

Let me get this straight. They’re standing up ENGINE to make us more competitive, but yet they’re taking away an employee benefit that would help to attract and maintain talent. Right, because that makes a lot of sense. 🙄

I’d like to see how they attempt to justify why they are taking away the hybrid schedule. But we all know it’s to scapegoat us all to cover up the failures of the execs over the last few years.
