Solventum RTO? Time to unionize?

Solventum employees, out of curiosity, if they made us return to the office, would you support unionization?

na, i feel unions are foolish. If you're a worthwhile employee then you already have the power to make your own decision. If the company releases you then finding another job isn't really a big deal if you're skillful. If you're unskilled then, well, you're rightfully dispensable.

When the pandemic hits i moved out of town. If they RTO then i'll just be saying No and rolling with whatever happens. Though, i don't foresee being let go as a result.

I don't believe that RTO itself is sufficient for unionization. I prefer the hybrid model, specifically because once I'm in the office, I cannot get heads down work done without all of the too frequent distractions of supervisors, who, 'what do you actually do here' can be mystrerious (yet a number of them whinge about the all day b2b meetings, many of which they didn't need to attend in the first place for something other than 'personal face time' value). So on those days I'm remote, I can get those things done. Same sentiment with my peers. On the other hand I do like physically being around the people I work with.

I'm all about unionization. But, I don't think Solventum is going to largely RTO. Leadership isn't even based in MN, mostly. The new Eagan office is smaller than 3M's intentionally.

I return to office because I want to, not because they made me. Also, there is no messaging or discussion on being forced to return to office. We are organizing with out own working groups and other functions that we interact with to coordinate when to come in. It is good to see others in person and grab some lunch together etc...

Some of us have been showing up to the office (almost) every day for years.
