Goal season is here. And once again I am considering the ridiculousness of the time we spend in managing and administering goals. In my experience, it isn't my goals that have driven me to a differential performance, it has only been the project that I was tied to that had a larger impact on a business and thus earned me a differential rating. In those years, I didn't necessarily work harder, smarter, or more efficient. . . . it was a force of circumstance (and luck by some means of the folks I support working on a big project) that allowed me to 'achieve'. What are your experiences with goals? What is the right attitude to have when approaching the meetings, calibrations, and subsequent results?
