Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

So who are we? Let’s share

It’s becoming obvious something major is happening; finance is being offshored (never dreamt that would’ve happened), IT has always been dealing with offshoring but it seems these cuts will be deeper and longer, CBU was sold and our colleagues were left hanging, petrochemical / reservoir and etc engineering jobs are being shipped over seas too now.

So, before we wake up one day and 1/2 of our colleagues are gone, let’s share some of our fondest Chevron memories!

I’ll go first, I remember at John Watson town-hall, this Asian guy took the mic and asked in a thick Asian accent, how much luck is involved in getting to management (or something along those lines) and every in the room had a good chuckle. John Watson went on to explain that it may seem like luck, but it’s getting yourself ready to take advantage of the opportunities when they become available. I’m not doing it justice but that was pretty hilarious.

I had a very positive interaction with IT GM MA at a bar once. It was years ago, for some kind of after work happy hour and we talked for a bit at the bar, my first thought was he isn’t coming across as upper management soulless pr--k, like a normal guy talking about his kids and all.

@3fgu+1v7Ev9j4: When your chairman can’t even deliver our own Townhall and has to rely on that slimy dude from Microsoft, that should have been evidence enough of MW’s ineptitude. That Townhall was an embarrassment.

Remember when MW brought in the Microsoft CEO to talk at Chevron’s town-hall? That was eff’n weird, the way MW was acting, I expected MW to kneel and call him sugar daddy and asked to be paddled.

My fav is when Chevron senior management nit pick about stupid things like rushing into a lift or tripping over an untied shoelace, when there are plenty of corroded wellheads out there in the wild ready to impale itself into the unwitting

Not my story but my dad recalled an encounter in an elevator with DM who headed up COPI (so probably late 80s or early 90s). Dad apparently had put the brakes on a COPI project and came to San Ramon (from SF) for a meeting that day. DM was so angry that he refused to acknowledge my dad while riding up the elevator together. iAfter all these years, it still makes me laugh that a senior executive could be so NOT in control of his emotions that he resorted to giving my dad the silent treatment. What a man-child! 😂😂😂

I was in the emerging leader program back in the day and someone ask why we treat contractors like they have Leprosy in a Q and A session. I don’t know if she is still with the company or not but that’s exactly the kind of compassionate leader we need nowaday

A life altering announcement and pretty big deal for HQ and most of those impacted couldn't get into the virtual meeting and those in the "room" were the selected few that were not going to ask the hard questions. HQ move townhall anyone? The highlight of the whole thing was the chat where someone aptly coined it with their pictographs...dumpster fire HQ move townhall...

A virtual townhall where our OpCo President was extolling the virtues of being a center of excellence, all the while the backdrop on everyone’s screen was total chaos due to IT clinches.

Remember when HR held all employee town halls? When’s the last time that has happened? Years?

Wonderful townhall where JG pretty much said that women cannot get ahead because they have to take care of the kids (mind you this was an HR audience)...and how he could because he had a woman at home to handle things...not to mention all of the staff that the rest of us probably can't afford without his minimum $8 million salary. Can't remember the exact wording but pretty much degraded single parents as well. All respect, or what was left, gone.

Funded offsite dinner Christmas parties with spouses invited, department team building picnics with family, the World Corporate Games where we competed against other athletes from corporations around the world, funded bowling leagues, and NASCAR sponsorships. It was a different Chevron back then.

GM of data AG had a town-hall and this guy unmuted to ask a question and he seemed pretty nervous and had a hard time getting the question out, AG got a bit annoyed and lectured him to get the question out and ask it plainly. He then seemed to stutter more lol, that was pretty funny.

I’m truly sorry to see so many dedicated colleagues facing uncertainty with their futures at the company. I pray everyone lands on their feet, we’re all just trying to earn a decent living & provide for our families.

Current ABU SCM LT promoted and commended a menace for 10 years before a report to the HR hotline finally for rid of him. They also rewarded supervisors for product development despite not actually being involved. Takes real talent to promote people who take credit for other's work and not be aware of it.

I loved it when Big Joey G said all of us where playing the victim card during the last major MW that satisfied his addiction until now. Will it be MN that will tell us we are just babies for more morale destroying cuts?

I was trying to imagine what Chevron will look like in 2030.

  • a much smaller workforce, with less than 50% in high cost countries
  • production is still strong (say ~3 MMboe/day)
  • new energy projects have flopped, most of CNE laid off
  • all new developments stopped, company is being run for production
  • production will sharply decline to 2.5 by 2035 but that is OK
  • only PE and well intervention required to manage decline, d&c all laid off

…..
Management still makes the big money!

This is not what I expected but I should have lol.

If I get laid off, I’ll take sometime off and hit some breweries cross the Lone Star and then maybe try and start a business.

Good luck to all of us!

I remember something called the CVX way, tenets of operation, safety moments, fit breaks, ZIA awards, free watches, LPOs, back when we had some semblance of a winning culture
