New Job at competitor - will I be walked?

So I have been offered a new role at a competitor. Are there any rules around whether I would need to work my notice period vs being 'walked' and paid only lieue of the notice period?

Just say 2 week notice, and above all DO NOT TELL THEM WHERE YOU ARE GOING. I can say as 100% fact that csco has enough contacts that they can figure it out in short order and if they don't want you there it isn't beyond them to make phone calls. Not one of you will be remembered in two months and not one thing or person at csco is saving humanity. Heck, their politics are making it worse so just leave and consider yourself lucky

Rule #1 is to never ever under any circumstances disclose where you’re going. You can be courteous and give them a 2 week notice. Even if you do, I don’t believe they’ll expect you to work and they might just say you can leave immediately.

cisco has no competitor because Cisco has already out of any competition.

I'm not aware of any rules, but generally speaking, if you have any administrative permissions, you're likely to be walked out immediately. Or you'll spend the rest of that day handing off your responsibilities and login accounts so that your team can change the passwords and you're walked out at the end of the day.

If you're a developer, your access to the code bases will be revoked, and since you can't do any work, you'll likely be walked out.

I have no idea what sales would do, but I don't really see them letting you work since you're leaving. So yeah, most likely you'll get walked.

I did have one company, where I saw them walk many people out immediately but they were all fired for whatever reason. They also had a use/lose vacation policy w/ no rollover, so I took all my remaining PTO the last days of the year, came back in on Jan 2nd and gave my notice expecting to be walked and they ended up making me stay and work. I ended up working 1 week of my 2 weeks notice and told them that the workplace was becoming hostile and that I was not going to work the 2nd week, so I was escorted out right then and I wasn't paid for the 2nd week. That was fine w/ me.

Post back and let us know what you did (give notice or not) and if you were walked or allowed to work if you gave notice. And include what type of role you had. I'd be interested to see what happens. The people on my team all seem to disappear immediately. Whether or not they gave notice or not, the manager didn't share when they got notice, they just tell us that "Joe" is gone effective now. I think some of them did have some "handoff" period, but whether or not it was the same day they gave notice or if they worked some or all of their notice period, I don't know.

Do not give notice, do not tell them where you are going. You don't have to do either. If you tell them you are going to a competitor you will be walked out same day.
