Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

Time to unionize in the US

It's clear that Tom Polen and his leadership team will continue abusing and mistreating associates across the US. The unchecked outsourcing of jobs and manufacturing lines will continue impacting our jobs and the future of the company. Maybe it is time for US associates to form a union and fight for our jobs and benefits. We need to stop the bleeding of jobs and benefits that only intend to put more money in Polen's and his leadership team's pockets. Time associates in the US act together and unionize.

How can we organize?
If only we had an anonymous platform that anyone could use to communicate with other bd employees. Hmmm 🤔

Yeah unions that’s the answer. Just someone else ripping you off - the union boss. Your stupid thinking that will work. It’s not your company mo--n it belongs to the shareholders. A job isn’t a right like voting. Just like you can quit and go someplace else for more money at any time they can fire you just because.

To answer the question of how we organize this. A private social media group would work. It can be spread by word of mouth to trusted associates. It would need to be a platform where people requesting to join could be easily verified. We don't want company spies infiltrating it. And no associates at the manager level or above should be given access. The question is who will take the bull by the horns....

How do we organize for a union and the Jan 3 walkout? A site? A communication? A Teams Group (LOL!)? This can't die down.

They can't fire you for organizing but they have plenty of other excuses and they'll use them. They don't care about quality of services anymore. If they did, they wouldn't have sent all the jobs to Genpact. They only care about the all mighty dollar. BD right now is an inverted pyramid with all the heavy-weight execs at the top. They don't care about the peasants at the bottom. They fire and hire new without any sense of loyalty or care.

This has to happen! It's the only way to get T.P. to treat us like more than just a commodity. And I'm onboard with the company wide call out sick day. That could serve as a wakeup call to our Little Napoleon.

Leadership can’t fire you for organizing lol. It’s against the law. However, that being said, Unions are a double edged sword. Things are more black and white under union contracts. So that flexibility one might enjoy will be gone. You have to weigh the pros and cons folks. Union dues aren’t cheap and will have to be paid. Good luck to those who want to stick it out at BD. I would look for another company that values you, union or non union. BD isn’t worth working for.

How can we do this? How can we get organized across all the US locations without being targeted and fired by leadership? This has to be done now.

Unions are a great trick if you can be the boss of one.

Some plants in the US have held elections to form a union in the past. Unfortunately, the employees were lied to by corporate leaders who showed up with promises of better salaries and changes and voted against forming the union. Now we all know that Polen, his leadership team, and everyone from corporate will just lie. The only thing they care about is laying off more people so they can outsource their jobs and reduce costs. Independently, if the outsourced work is up to our standards or not. Similar to the continuous shipping of product lines overseas. I agree if we don't band together and fight for our jobs now, we will all be unemployed soon. The writing is on the wall. Let's form a union!
