I came from a branch that was working hard to exceed our quarter 1 and 2 goals. Many teammates including myself were harassed and made to do our nextgen calls while even on our lunch breaks by our managers and assistant managers. This didn’t happen just to me where I had to work through my lunch break just to avoid getting a write up or reprimanded but to others as well. What was my reward? Being herded like cattle to a HR death trap and being told to leave the building after being laid off to avoid customers seeing me. Hard work doesn’t pay off for Flagstar. If you still work at flagstar, just know that any option of professional growth is non-existent.
Wow ! This is absolutely terrible all these stories. I feel so badly for all affected. Not only the people that were laid off but the ones who are still there with a bad taste over this. Talk about a morale deflate . Ever since the merger it’s been a mess. The feel of Flagstar isn’t the same. It’s all about sales sales sales. Robo dialing people for more sales. And oh don’t forget do all your classes wait on customers and make those dials now that you are short handed. Banking isn’t all about sales. It’s about account maintenance and help with fraud and balancing your drawer, maintaining the atm. Sending cards to customers who have lost their spouses and comforting them when they come in with a death certificate. It’s wayyyy more than those annoying robo calls that a lot of people hate and the almighty big bucks. Epic fail under the new regime. I’m sure more will leave on their own because this place doesn’t care about its employees anymore no matter what line is thrown out there. It’s shameful!
I regret ever accepting a job at Flagstar. This is the most heartless and soul crushing place I have ever worked. I am so heartbroken and sick to my stomach about all of these layoffs. I really feel like the remaining employees need to unionize and organize a strike. This company is disgusting. It’s horrible that we just get used up and sp-t out and these bs executives get to ride off into the sunset with their millions of dollars.
I have special needs kid with autism and muscular dystrophy, my manager knows this, I am not sure how can I get over this holidays! I worked so hard and sacrificed so much at the expense of my time with my children and family just to be sure I can put food on the table for them and refill the medications. I wish the execs who makes millions feel the pain we suffer and walked in our shoes, even just a day!
I worked at a branch in Staten Island for years. I never been treated like this. Like I was a criminal . I was put on a zoom meeting where not even compassions !!! Maybe do the right thing get our jobs back this was terrible to do this. Right before holidays we have families some of us signal parents. How does a corporation treat people like this and think there gonna get away with it !!!! make it right for your employees before you hire new ones get your old ones back that worked there as--s off !!! And don’t say they can’t cause they absolutely can hire back every 700 employee they just told !!! Not in 6 months this needs to be addressed right away and not let them get away with this !!
To the manager that said "the laid off employees are lazy and need to get out there to find a new job", you are completely WRONG! The impacted colleagues that I knew are the most hard working, dedicated and smart! I am ashamed that this bank has such people in management role, you clearly are not qualified for the job!
Decision coming from Senior Managers and above, local manager/assistant managers know the night before only. There are exceptions where team is bigger than 6 employees, in that case Managers provide input but do not make final decisions.
Any of the fu--ing managers calling anyone lazy who got laid off? Hope your fu--ing life becomes a failure! You aren’t a true leader as it’s so easy to say they were lazy… you’re their mentor go do your work as a leader or go shove those words up your ar-e! How dare you! Do you have an autistic child? Are you pregnant? Are you having any issues with your health? Think twice before you throw your words because you or your family will suffer the same way! How fu--ing dare you call an innocent mother/ employee lazy! She did her best as an employee and a mother!
I’m more mad because this company made us literally pay from our own savings to reach our personal goals, which we have reached! Better than the ones who were NOT laid off! You didn’t even pay us enough!
To the person who mentioned this statement FU-K YOU!
“We approached this decision with empathy and compassion for everyone affected,” NYCB CEO Joseph Otting said in a statement Thursday. “We want to express our appreciation for our employees' contributions.” Fu-k you!
WOW WOW !!! This just made my decision now to pull every dollar out of this bank !!! How dare they treat there workers like this I want nothing to do with a bank like this 15 years of a loyal customer !!! I am disgusted!!! Hire this people back with back pay !! How disgusting is this !! Hope they can put there head on a pillow at night knowing they took there jobs away to support there families !!!
We did sign NDAs but again that was ONLY THE NIGHT BEFORE when we were told who was being let go, we had no input and no future notice it was all less than 24 hours and bo-m! That was it.
I didn’t intend to call all of you lazy and I just meant in corporate world just like citi bank laid off 7,000 people in April and Chase laid off 3,000 earlier this year, banks let go people typically who aren’t reaching their goals as what I noticed in my region anyways. I am sure you were a very strong and busy worker.
And btw I am the Long Island manager and I am quitting because I hate what they did and just like citi and chase and now here they are all the same corporate executives don’t care about the frontline workers that are the face of it all
Managers who said they know nothing are just lying!!! You had to sign an NDA, why did HR ask you to sign NDA when you know nothing? And how did they come up with the list to layoff without the managers? Just randomly pick someone?!?!
I was one of the 700 and I have quite a lot to say, however that will be a separate post on its own.
I would like to address the Long Island manager who said all of us who were laid off are “lazy” and now need to get our thumbs out of our collective as--s and get a job.
How dare you. How DARE you.
I can speak for myself, my coworker who was let go, and others in local branches that I know (including floaters) when I say we have busted our as--s trying to make impossibly high goals, make hundreds of repetitive phone calls a week to customers, and staying late to accommodate our clients (to the intrusion of our personal lives, doctors appointments, child and family care, you name it, we sacrificed), not to mention running the daily operations of a very busy branch with a lot of foreign currency purchases, wire transfers, estate accounts, you name it, we got it.
We. Were. Not. Lazy. By. Any. Means.
We are hardworking, self-sacrificing and loyal individuals who were treated as sacrificial lambs.
So enjoy having kept your job. At least you know your rent, your mortgage, your bills are being paid. Need maintenance medication? Good for you, you still have insurance to get your refills while we hope what we have can get us through to our next job and benefits kicking in. You can fill your tank at Wawa and stock up at Costco without a care in the world while we now try to get a job as quickly as we can in order to survive.
And one more suggestion: wipe your conscience. I hope it never happens to you. Then again, with your attitude, maybe you DO need to be laid off. Until you’ve walked a mile in our shoes, keep your snark to yourself.
“We approached this decision with empathy and compassion for everyone affected,” NYCB CEO Joseph Otting said in a statement Thursday. “We want to express our appreciation for our employees' contributions.”
I am also manager in Long Island and had no idea till night before. No one did. Its horrible… and I get everyone is upset because now you actually have to work and not get by anymore not doing a damn thing. Thats the truth. Truth is the people let go were the lower performers in their branches from what I can tell. No favoritism or people playing games- it’s simple. You should have performed better and you wouldn’t be on here complaining. Be professional, su-k it up and go out and find a new job. Want to place blame on anyone? Look in the mirror.
Wow!!! I don’t believe this !! FLAG STAR you should be Ashamed to do this to your employees !! I have my business accounts as well as my personal!! I will be withdrawing all my funds as of first thing tomorrow morning !! I will be spreading the word as well !!
Someone lost $8000 by investing in this company stocks!
REMOVE YOUR MONEY ASAP!!!!!
So they let us go and kept the nasty ones? You think they treat customers nicely? Many customers catch fights all the time due to rude behavior and bad customer service! Big arguments in the branch! Were they reported? No… did management take it seriously? No.. my colleague is short at the end of closing ($5 over) did management help get rid of that money by just taking it away? Yes they did.. even if the vault when over.. just because they are being favored they were able to cover their assess.
Was I being ever helped for? No.. I was mistreated badly days of crying! They literally try raising their fists at you… yep! This the management! Absolutely nasty and disgusting behavior!
You know how I hard I worked to bring customers to this bank who left Santander, Chase and other banks just because I asked them to! It cost my time and money to reach out to them! My personal time (after work).
Hereafter, I will be telling people the truth and to move all your money! And I will reach out to customers I knew and who lived around the bank and persuade them to move their money! And every other person how fu*ked up this bank is! I have successfully managed to remove a few high profile customers to Chase because you guys are literally showcasing high interest rates just to cover your bankruptcy mess!
You see how many people face hardships because you laid us off? This curse shall be on your personal lives as well! For everyone who decided upon it! Including the assistant manager who personally mistreated me, God shall punish you!
At the Risk department, layoff is based on how the management like you, merits never play a role! So sorry for those who were impacted! Those who stay really are the unlucky ones. This bank should be investigated for favorism and how bad they handle this layoff
I will no longer bank at FLAG STAR due to this disgusting lay off !!! I am a customer there 20 years !!!
I am a customer a very long time from Staten Island I enjoy walking into my branch . I know all those wonderful employees who always help me. I now will be removing all my funds going to chase bank. This was disgusting to do this to your employees they should be ashamed of them selfs!!!! Hire them back before your bank goes under it already is because of this so many friends and family I know is removing there funds !! no one will want to bank here now !!
I don't understand why they post the exact same jobs the day they laid people off? Is this a purging exercise? It seems like only the good people were cut, very odd!
I know personally a guy who keeps travelling, posting on social media his playful time everywhere while pretending to be at work yet he is still there. Meanwhile I worked like 10 hours a day, devoted my all to this job and yet I was laid off. Rot in he-l this f*cking place!
I have a special needs kid and rely on this job to make ends meet. My kid is scheduled to go for expensive medical procedures soon and then they decided to take my job and my insurance away! I worked my a** off and delivered everything yet I am the one who got chopped while the other who do nothing and just watch youtube at work got to stay! This bank is beyond miserable and I wish that it fail and all the execs suffer what we did.
Flagstar set goals so high bring money in bring money do calls after calls to a point where some customers had said it’s annoying. But we still kept accomplishing the goals hoping for a positive outcome in the end. Only to be laid off. I hope the girl that is 6 month pregnant on this thread at least gets her job back. It is not fair.
It’s is kind of strange that most people who were laid off were hardworking employees. Friends of all management and upper management were calm as if they knew they are safe. These people do no work in the branches just eat and be on the personal phone calls all day, while the rest of the staff are running around . It is just sad this had to happen just before the holiday’s. I’m starting to learn that hard work means nothing in the corporate world.
I had the most amazing team at my branch we all became a family worked hard together had the most Amazing Manager who cried with us when this happened !!!JOBS were posted the same day how about now fixing this and calling your FORMER EMPLOYEES CHRIS and get them back stand up for them !!!
They need to make this right and rehire back who they let go !!! If they think people don't see what this bank just
did people who have there funds there trust in this bank and now laid off all these amazing employees who are the ones who make it happen they should be ashamed of them selfs employees who were laid off are already in contact with lawyers !!Flag Star you need to fix this if you want to have a good reputation people look forward to coming in and seeing those employees who take care of them and trust in them they bust there a-s they become a team a family !!!! HIRE THEM ALL BACK!!! RiGHT AWAY!!!
Former employee from SI! I was laid off yesterday but I am thankful for everything I have learnt! I’m thankful for the pay, I was able to take care of my needs and I truly had an amazing branch manager!
Unless the job became more and more stressful, I enjoyed it! I’m thankful to God for everything and I am sure we will find better jobs by Gods grace and mercy.
There are employees who depend on this job for a meal on their table! The kids, rent!
I hope they don’t lose their jobs!
Prayers for you!
I knew… we were told a week before the lay off what’s coming up the following week. My colleague was able to speak to Chris and get hold of the job! Therefore the assistant manager knew as well.. everything suddenly changed! He knew, they knew! Maybe not everyone.. My previous manager was telling me to apply to jobs elsewhere and leave!
I knew a very close colleague of Gail and another higher ranking member! You know why they left now!
Branch Manager from Long Island here, I knew nothing. I had an incredible team and am heart broken for them all. I will miss them and wish everyone only the best , I truly believe that those of us who have to stay are the unlucky ones.
Manager here, this is not the end, more layoff to come in December, I am quitting
I was fired from my HR position and this is so fucked up!!! I was L-nycb and I am hurt and devastated and blindsided… but I was part of this project so I have to say, I know for a fact the decision was made months ago and NO ONE locally had a choice who was let go- that manager is telling truth they were all told night before first time found out. You have no idea what you are talking about and obviously unaware and feeling angry but don’t try and speak to things “personally know” cause large companies like this don’t let local people make these decisions. Thats common sense. Legally and risk perspective they would never let that happen. Whatever you think you know is fabricated in your mind to help get over your anger but TRUTH IS NO ONE KNEW but the top executives and HR. Wasn’t a conspiracy just handled like sht the way it went down to all of us
This is the second major layoff following acquisition of NYCB with Richmond county savings!
There can more..
They said re-apply, I leave with a heavy heart and look up with the provided link and guess what? Maybe 5 jobs open in Brooklyn, queens, NJ! No part time jobs open.. nothing in Staten Island.. after applying maybe you get called for the first interview over the phone and that’s it!
Reapplying is a total waste of time with some bank that will give you fu*ing raise of about .75 cents per year!
Not sure where you are getting your information but I can assure you that I nor any manager I know received notification 3 weeks ago or provided a list ….. we were devastated for our fellow teammates that were let go , they were like part of our family …. I cannot answer for the entire bank but I am SI andI am sorry if you lost your job but you are grossly misinformed if you think we provided names
To all the people like me who got let go, you want to get the final laugh? It probably won’t do anything but Senator Elizabeth Warren (who I cannot stand and abhor) is doing a Senate investigation on the disaster of flagstar and everything that’s happened since the merger. Message her office and let her know how the flagstar disaster impacted you with the current layoffs. As usual Congress doesn’t do anything, but this will at least force Flagstar to take accountability for their decision to ruthlessly layoff top performers, long time employees, and loyal teammates.
We understand it was a difficult time for everyone. Contrary to what mentioned here, the decision was not taken lightly. Rest assured that we have considered all possible options including transfering of employees to different positions. Those impacted will be prioritized when reapplying to Flagstar in the future.
