With the Teamsters President, Sean O'Brian in the news lately and in the recent past (RNC Convention Speech), he has one consistent message that is, "protection of the worker." So who protects the exempt employees. I gave up representation by the Communication Workers of America (CWA) when I was promoted from a Technician to a Field Services Manager. I had no regrets until recently when Private Equity Partners began their quest to takeover the world, as many of us former Avaya employees can testify. Cash rich Private Equity Partners buy the future of hard working career employees and are quick to take away jobs for any reason, including their own mis-management.
I fear our legislators who first gave us "Employment at Will," are now influenced by the millions and millions of dollars Private Equity Partners have available to them to influence politicians and prevent any legislation that would impede their "well oiled" termination machine executed by Managers we once considered friends and who may well be on the chopping block themselves very soon.
It's clear to me the Government is not going to protect workers any time soon. I believe it is now time to call in the Teamsters, CWA or other Unions to organize IT workers to protect our future. Companies that tread on the rights of their workers and terminate long term career employees without notice or explanation, such as Avaya are low hanging fruit and a prime candidate for collective bargaining.
