Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

What happens to the visa holders?

How does the company manage layoffs for employees on US work visas, such as L1, H1B, or F1?

Visa holders have various situation so like mentioned, please consult immigration lawyer. You'll have 60 days grace period to secure sposnsoship. If your GC is in process, there's exception that can be granted where 60 day period might be extended.

Side question, why are so many work visas granted when we already have IT talent right here in the US? I've worked along side many visa holder in this and previous companies, and their skills (both soft and hard) leave much to be desired. It seems there are gaps in their IT education. That's evident in the way some of them design and code software. It looks like a freshman in college wrote it, and then the other folk have to clean up the mess. On the flip side I've had the privilege to work with talented visa holders as well, but those are the exception rather than the norm. Also I've worked alongside awful programmers that are US Citizens/green card holders.

@OP+1uzF7jFv Visa status is very unlikely to have been taken into consideration. If you are on a visa, Paramount must inform immigration of your layoff.

I know from a previous company that you would likely be given a 60-day grace period to secure a new sponsorship. During this period, you can stay in the U.S. but must find a job or have to leave.

Ensure you get all your papers in order and consult an immigration lawyer if you are let go. Don't rely on the lawyer Paramount worked with to bring you to the U.S. But negotiate on exit for them to cover your costs, whatever happens.
