Sorry, that does not always work.

Yes, it’s not iron clad, but it’s better than waiting for the sword. I was in a similar situation earlier in my Cisco but one day, Cisco decided that my niche was a business that they didn’t want to be in. Out of 20 people in my group, they cut 16, so I got a chance to reengineer myself.

So true. In my finance BU back in Feb, of the 3 the ages were 54, 58 and 47. Could not be more clear. I am sure they had some sacrificial 20 yo low performers to make up the difference somewhere...but our VP was definitely biased

"I would have absolutely been on the list today, but I have niche capabilities that made it impossible for them to fire me. You need, as you get older, to engineer yourself into that position.
Any company, any industry.”

Sorry, that does not always work. I was the only person on my team with any subject matter expertise in the offers I managed (multi-$B business) and I was let go in July. My director tried to save me and was told that all contractors on the team were going, full stop, period.

Fight it! Age discrimination is a real thing, they then know few people will fight it. If you tell HR you were discriminated about they will be all over it trying to prove you wrong. The good news is it is the only thing they take seriously. They do everything under the power to have you sign the dotted line so they don't get sued.

What we need it s CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!

"You'll get a count of people in your BU that were impacted by age. Look it over. You'll see you don't have any ageism case."

Inaccurate. I've seen a list from a previous LR and it was almost exclusively over 50. Of the few under 50, most "found" internal positions.

HR and legal made sure of it.

How old are you ? I know people in their 20s and 30s getting affected

Just because you’re old doesn’t mean your anecdotal experience is the same throughout. My boss was let go and they were in their 30’s

So sorry to hear. Ageism is everywhere and definitely in tech. Hopefully you can use your experience to your advantage and find a much better path. Good luck, friend!

I’m sorry you got let go. But hopefully will be a beneficial thing in the end. Get out of this mess. But how is it ageism?

Cisco is the industry benchmark in age discrimination. Why, because it's what they do and they do it well. What does that mean? They know the exact amount of younger fodder they don't care about to throw in so they won't lose a class action age discrimination lawsuit with said demographics. Evil, but effective.
