Thread regarding 3M layoffs

quietly whittling down numbers

STPAUL..the painful process of labor layoffs is underway again, albeit mostly older women in centers. Then it will be the older men on the old pension scheme that look a liabilty should they die in service, the younger employees who can take the company forward will be given better benefits and training now BB is in charge,

3M is no more capable of utilizing AI as I am about to do a lunar landing. Seriously the executive team wishes they could utilize AI to job eliminate thousands. With our old as F IT infrastructure the servers would crash before any customer could be helped or an order placed. Many areas of 3M don't even have adequate wireless in North America. Don't even talk about the antiquated production lines that are one obsolete part from breaking down everywhere. There is one 3M executives are good at, and it isn't AI or automation. They never invest in infastructure for modern equipment that more than pays for itself. When they do and sales do not take off they drop the program like a hat.

It’s very normal to lay off. The next wave will coincide with 3M harnessing AI which is hopefully just around the corner.

Fingers crossed all 30+ year employees are the next wave… it will be wonderful to be rid of them.

@kfs+1uxNHJ5t - it's been that way for years, nothing new. Once upon a time there were over 90,000 employees. Now it's down to 65,000, there's proof in the pudding right there that layoffs are now a continuous improvement process and not a tough business decision.

Third generation layoff victim. Not the same company grandpa worked at for sure.

Is there any proof of this whatsoever, or did your one specific plant lay off some old lady who couldn't keep up with the demand of the job anymore?

I'm getting sick of hearing all the doom and gloom from myopic plant workers thinking that whatever petty office politics happening at their plant applies to the other 65,000 3M employees.
