Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Is Exxon ever going to get less stressful?

I honestly don't know how much more of this I can handle. I've been here for a little over a year and things just seem to keep piling up, with no end in sight. Every day feels more chaotic than the last. Is it ever going to ease up, or is this the normal for this place?

@4qiv+1usRYRte ExxonMobil doesn't have another decade. Darren and Kathy have taken care of this corporation while filling their pockets. RIP ExxonMobil

Mostly no. But I got a new boss and it made it less stressful.

The answer is "NO". The stress will increase over the next decade.

I have worked here for 28 years. 1990's were great for me. If you were not here then you have no idea. I was making my mark when you guys were su-king on the bottle or tat. Only the old truly know different it was.

I wish all I had to do was work on meaningless stuff. I work in a stressful, difficult, evil and competitive environment. Way back it used to be a fun easy place to work as competition and pay were lower. I enjoyed my co workers and the work was fun. I worked on novel innovative things. Now there is high stress and demands for things to be done quickly. More bureaucracy and forms to slow down work. People that are at war with each other and want to outdo the others. Everyone wants to be the CEO and will push their underlings to work harder. Many employees have quit or retired because of this environment. I don t mind the crazies that stay and work 12 hours a day. That is fine for them but don't expect me to do the same. The money is just not worth it. If you are salary you hourly pay goes down for every extra hour you work. Then there are the protected who only work six hours and are ranked higher than people who work 9 or 9 hours. I will give 8 to 9 hours of work a day and that is it because then they will hit you with time management efficiency. For some workers nit might be easy but for me and the other higher CL levels technical there is excessive an work load. So if all you do is excell and powerpoint all day good for you but for me and others it is he-l.

Give us a break! You just type random numbers in excel and write platitudes in PowerPoint, while you are being paid 2-3 times the median US salary? And you feel stressed? Feel so sorry for you :-)

BTW one-year employee: what was your research on EM before joining? Did you post your “proud to join” picture in LinkedIn too?

It won’t get better, but you will get better at adapting to the stress. Persevere and don’t quit then you’ll grow as a person. Think the grass is greener? The grass is brown on both sides

You will get better at adapting and being happy if you work on your inner strength and character. Xom culture is a minimal thing to adapt to compared to what humans have adapted to the last million years. You are capable of much more and as time goes on, with a good attitude, it will appear easier despite being the same or worse. Challenge yourself and grow. If not here, somewhere else but do not give up entirely.

I and few other older employees are trying to take it easy and endure less stress. The a hole supervisor is so driven by greed that they constantly criticize and complain we need to work harder. Everything we do is not good enough for this special person. Even the hipos in the team are pushed harder. These supervisors are mad with power and getting ahead and being ranked top that they are constantly stabbing each other in the back. other supervisors and their minions are constantly spying on us and telling the manager on us. Several employees and contractors have quit from our team because of the people and working conditions. The threats do not work on us the old because we can retire anytime. So yes it will get better for me because I will not be stressed out working for exxon. So for some of us it will get less stressful for sure. Retiring is the only way to less stress and freedom for me.

@otb+1usRYRte <---This guy/gal/thing get it.

@toj+1usRYRte <--- partially true/right, but sounds like a pompous pr1ck that gets his yams on weekly (yams being a metaphor for company-issue kn33pads).

Yes I want less stress and that equals pip. Always. I don't give a f anymore. I do my eight and a half hours calmly and safely.the scared ones stay 9 or 10 hours and good for them. I don't like the people and environment.it does not make me want yo stay around these a holes. I want to work 20 hours a week in another field or company. So when I leave I will try to do that if not I will sit at home and veg out. I might even move to Colorado and take up some gummies and candies with thc . Leave the stress in texas. I will smoke one for you guys. A good cube picture would be a person with a lit joint.

If you are stressed after a year, you need to leave, you are still on your honeymoon and have people and mentors looking after you. Find a job that suits you better.

Don’t like the heat get out of the pan!

One thing that the average poster here hates to acknowledge is that fundamentally, the HiPo’s, are high performances by definition.

Sure, the company was built to reward HiPo’s more than anyone else. If you wanna be one, then up your performance.

If you are struggling to stay on top of everything you can either step up and be a high performer, or go talk to your manager about your heavy workload and they’ll help you offload/prioritize.

The nice thing is that managers are generally helpful and responsive to when their employees say they are overwhelmed with work. We are all in the same sh-t sandwich.

Remember: being a top-ranked employee is not a requirement for your job. If you don’t want to put in the work, don’t! You’ll find that it does get easier and that your manager can help!

It will not get better. Cost cutting, ‘doing more with less’, and the stress with dealing with work/workers offshored to BTC.

5:1 ratio. Is that before or after corrections? Analogy: 100 words per minute typing isn’t worth much if it’s full of mistakes.

It will only get worse. Currently the leads of each group in Spring have 20% to 50%of their teams in Bangalore. Next couple of years the Leads will be in Bangalore and have 20% of their teams in Spring.

Imagine working like that. You will report to in incompetent low cost id--t whose work you will constantly have to correct.

It will not get better. As more of the experienced and capable US based staff move on (PIP, retire or quit) things will get worse. Our management is insular with no outside experience and we do not weed out the poorly performing ones. No matter how capable the off shore employees may be as individuals, there is no plan, oversight or vision for competent execution and management.

Our management will flounder and PowerPoint until it all collapses.

The cost differential between a U.S. and BTC employee is 5:1. Your output needs to be at least 5 times as much…

I have seen it get worse steadily since 1986. Not sure why it would turn around.

If you see something being done that might make things better...beware...it usually blows up for worse.
